A major theft took place at the Shani Temple located near the Tigri Roundabout in the Crossing Republic police station area of Ghaziabad during the early morning hours of September 2. Taking advantage of the dark, a thief broke open the main lock of the temple and made off with valuable brass idols and sacred worship items. However, thanks to prompt action by law enforcement, the police solved the high-profile case within just 6 hours. The investigating team arrested 24-year-old Danish and recovered all the stolen items worth approximately Rs 2.5 lakh, including idols of Laddu Gopal and Radha Rani.
CCTV Footage Leads Police to Quick Breakthrough
Immediately following the incident, Suraj Shukla, associated with the temple management, lodged an official complaint with the local authorities. Based on Shukla's statement, a case was registered under relevant sections at the Crossing Republic police station. Recognizing the sensitivity of the crime at a religious site, police officials formed dedicated investigation teams. Officers carefully analyzed footage from multiple CCTV cameras installed in and around the temple premises while gathering manual intelligence. The visual evidence along with local inputs helped police identify the suspect's movements. Acting on these leads, officers laid a trap and apprehended the suspect near a sewage treatment plant.
Accused Hails from Meerut, Resided in Noida
During police interrogation, the arrested individual was identified as 24-year-old Danish, son of Bablu. Danish is a native of Kashi village under the Partapur police station area in Meerut district, but had recently been living at Radhakunj Colony in Sector-123, Noida. Under questioning, Danish confessed to committing the burglary. He revealed that he was roaming the area in the early morning dark looking for theft opportunities when he spotted the Shani Temple. After breaking the lock, he stole the religious items and was on his way to sell them in the market before being intercepted by police forces.
Recovery of Idols and Religious Accessories
Police successfully recovered the entire cache of stolen religious items, valued at around Rs 2.5 lakh. The seized assets include two large brass idols of Laddu Gopal, one large brass idol of Radha Rani, two small Laddu Gopal idols, and one large brass mace. Additionally, officers recovered two copper sacred footprints (Charan Padukas), three brass urns (lotas), five brass oil lamps (diyas), a puja bell, and several other ritual accessories. The swift recovery of the revered Laddu Gopal idols just a day before the festival of Janmashtami brought immense relief to local devotees and temple organizers.
Prior Criminal Record and Legal Action
Investigation revealed that Danish is a habitual offender with a significant criminal background. Police records show that four cases have previously been registered against him involving theft, offenses under the NDPS Act, and charges under the POCSO Act. Authorities are currently gathering further details regarding his past criminal involvement and network. Further legal proceedings are being executed against the accused as he is produced before the court.

In a similar past incident at the famous Buddheshwar Temple in Lucknow, a sevadar involved in managing temple operations was arrested for stealing valuable temple bells over time. Following the rapid resolution of the Ghaziabad theft, police confirmed that security patrolling near religious and public sites has been intensified to deter criminal activities.
