Members of an organized syndicate relied on fake profiles across Facebook and Instagram, utilizing complex coded language to arrange the purchase and supply of illicit firearms. Following a sustained multi-day surveillance operation monitoring these encrypted and coded digital communications, the Delhi Police Special Cell successfully dismantled the entire interstate network, arresting eight key individuals, including the syndicate's mastermind.
Digital Surveillance Uncovers Coded Network
The investigation began after the Delhi Police Special Cell received specific intelligence indicating that large consignments of illegal weapons were being smuggled from Madhya Pradesh into Delhi-NCR and nearby northern states. As investigators dug deeper, they discovered that members of the gang consciously avoided conventional phone calls to minimize the risk of interception. Instead, they relied heavily on Facebook, Instagram, and various encrypted messaging applications. While the exchange of messages appeared harmless on the surface, every phrase carried a specific hidden meaning used to finalize weapons orders and coordinate delivery logistics.
Fake Profiles and Virtual Numbers Used to Evade Detection
Police inquiries revealed that the syndicate's mastermind, Shishpal Singh alias Yash Chaudhary, employed sophisticated tactics to conceal his identity and bypass law enforcement detection. To maintain operational secrecy, he regularly created fake profiles on Facebook and Instagram while utilizing virtual mobile numbers. Through these anonymous digital identities, Singh managed communications between arms suppliers based in Madhya Pradesh, prospective buyers, and couriers responsible for transporting the weapons across state borders.
Interstate Supply Chain Spanning Multiple Regions
According to law enforcement officials, the syndicate operated a highly structured and organized arms smuggling supply chain. The group procured illegal firearms from sources in Madhya Pradesh and trafficked them into Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Punjab. The entire operation was meticulously managed, with specific gang members assigned distinct responsibilities for procurement, concealed transportation, temporary storage, and localized distribution across different states.
Substantial Seizure of Firearms and Ammunition
Executing targeted raids across multiple locations, the Special Cell apprehended eight syndicate members, including mastermind Shishpal Singh. Police recovered a total of 18 illegal firearms during the operation. The seized cache comprised 12 semi-automatic pistols, 5 country-made pistols, and 1 revolver. Additionally, officers confiscated 10 extra magazines and 5 live cartridges of 9mm caliber, effectively frustrating potential violent crimes in the national capital region and neighboring areas.
Accused Carry Extensive Criminal Histories
A detailed background check conducted by the police revealed that several arrested individuals have extensive criminal records. One of the detainees, Noor Mohammad alias Tasleem, is named in 12 prior criminal cases across different police stations. Another gang member, Mohammad Shaan, faces 6 existing criminal charges. Mastermind Shishpal Singh is also a repeat offender who was previously arrested in 2021 for illegal arms smuggling. Investigators emphasized that the network had built a wide-reaching interstate distribution system that leveraged modern digital tools to evade tracking while continuously supplying illegal arms.
