A dedicated 'Pink Force' comprising trained female personnel will soon patrol the streets of the national capital to significantly enhance security for women and children. The directive was issued by Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu while addressing police personnel and senior leadership at the Police Headquarters (PHQ) auditorium. Underscoring that safety of women remains an absolute imperative with zero room for compromise, the Lieutenant Governor laid down clear operational guidelines for frontline policing across the city. This marked his second official visit to the Police Headquarters following his earlier appearance on 24 June 2026.
Deployment of the Dedicated Pink Force Across Vulnerable Spots
Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu instructed the Delhi Police to assemble and deploy a specialised patrol contingent named the Pink Force. Drawing direct inspiration from the model established by the Goa Police, this force will consist of thoroughly trained female officers deployed across designated operational areas. The units will maintain high visibility outside schools, colleges, Delhi Metro stations, busy marketplaces, and vulnerable crime hotspots. Their presence is designed to deter offenders and enable swift intervention during emergencies, particularly during peak transit hours when risk factors are elevated. In conjunction with this initiative, the LG ordered the continuation of focused anti-harassment drives under 'Operation Shishtachar' to tackle eve-teasing and public misconduct with an iron hand.
Citizen-Centric Responsive Policing and Digital Tracking of Grievances
Articulating his vision for community-oriented policing, the LG stated that every local police station must transform into an accessible, welcoming space where citizens can voice their concerns without apprehension, receive immediate support, and feel completely safe. He stressed the necessity of strengthening ties between beat officers, local stations, and the neighborhoods they protect. To build a robust security grid, foot and motorcycle patrols are to be intensified in congested, vulnerable sectors, especially around transit hubs, commercial centers, and educational establishments.
Accountability in public grievance redressal was identified as a core priority. The LG directed the implementation of an end-to-end digital tracking system for complaints received during public hearings (Jan Sunwai). Under this mechanism, every single petition must be officially logged, acknowledged, monitored electronically, and resolved within a strictly defined timeframe. In instances where complaints pertain to municipal bodies or external administrative departments, the system must ensure prompt transfer to the relevant agencies for coordinated action.
Child Safety Outreach, Anti-Narcotics Drives, and Cyber Defense
Addressing the welfare and protection of minors, the LG mandated regular interactive awareness sessions across educational institutions. These workshops will focus on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, foundational child protection measures, cybercrime prevention, the perils of substance abuse, and road safety protocols. To institutionalise these efforts, each police district will appoint a dedicated nodal officer responsible for formulating and executing a quarterly schedule of outreach activities. Furthermore, to nurture institutional trust from an early age, local police teams will collaborate with schools and Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) to organise recurring sports programmes for children aged 5 to 15 years.
On crime suppression, the LG directed uncompromising, intelligence-led operations against illicit narcotics networks in alignment with the 'Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan'. Recognising the exponential surge in technology-enabled offences, he emphasised expanding investigative infrastructure at local police stations to handle digital evidence securely and process cyber complaints. Station-level officers were instructed to work in close coordination with specialized cyber crime units to ensure swift turnaround in sensitive cases.
Traffic Congestion Management and Police Welfare Reforms
Urban mobility was another focal area discussed during the high-level review. The LG instructed the traffic wing to map high-density choke points and maintain elevated personnel deployment during peak morning and evening travel windows. Surveillance through real-time closed-circuit television networks and centralised traffic monitoring hubs will be scaled up to ease gridlock across critical transport arteries.
Regarding internal department welfare, the LG asked senior brass to institute fixed operational hours for addressing internal grievances at the headquarters, guarantee timely career advancements and promotions for subordinate ranks and women personnel, and remodel residential complexes into 'model zero-waste police colonies'. Reaffirming an uncompromising stance against corruption, he instructed supervisory officers to enforce absolute integrity during all public interactions. Concluding the session, the LG commended the Delhi Police and collaborating security establishments for the seamless and secure execution of the BRICS Summit, highlighting how meticulous planning, inter-agency coordination, and professional rigor delivered flawless security with minimal disruption to city residents. He observed that operational insights gained from managing this global summit will serve as a vital benchmark for handling future mega-events in the capital, urging commanders from headquarters down to police stations to translate these directives into tangible on-ground results.
