A major accident has been reported from the national capital. A five-storey building suddenly collapsed near the Satya Niketan area of South West Delhi, sparking fears that several people are trapped under the debris. Panic spread in the surrounding area as news of the collapse broke, and rescue operations began at the site soon after.
Fire department alerted around 1:30 pm
The fire department received information about the collapse at around 1:30 pm today. Multiple fire department teams and vehicles rushed to the spot as soon as the alert came in. The exact location of the collapse is said to be an area adjoining Delhi's Moti Bagh locality, which has several residential buildings and coaching institutes nearby.
Fears that students are among those trapped
The five-storey building that collapsed is said to have been in use as a students' hostel, raising fears that some students may also be buried under the debris. Rescue teams are clearing the rubble carefully to avoid causing further injury to anyone still trapped. So far, neither the exact number of injured people nor the total number of people who were actually inside the building at the time has been confirmed.
Not the first such incident in Delhi
This is not the first time a building collapse has been reported in the capital. Earlier, a building near Delhi's Saket metro station had also collapsed, with fears at the time that students were trapped inside, raising questions about the safety of old and densely built structures in the city.
