Liquor stores across the national capital will remain completely shut on October 9 and 10, 2026. The excise department of the Delhi government has formally notified the measure, prohibiting the sale of alcohol throughout the city over the two-day period.
Police Security Inputs Prompt Closure
The directive was issued following specific security inputs and operational assessments shared by the Delhi Police. Authorities instituted the closure as a precautionary safeguard to preserve public peace and maintain law and order across sensitive zones in the city.
Precautionary Measure Ahead of Jantar Mantar Demonstrations
The restriction comes amid ongoing demonstrations in the capital, including planned protest activity by the CJP at Jantar Mantar. Administrative officials moved to suspend retail alcohol trade to minimize any disruption and deter potential disturbances during gatherings.
Strict Compliance Across All Licensed Outlets
Under the excise department mandate, all licensed retail vends across Delhi are required to keep their shutters down on both specified dates. Enforcement teams are slated to monitor adherence, with non-compliance attracting statutory penalties under Delhi excise regulations.
