Commuters in the national capital are facing massive disruptions as the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has indefinitely closed 16 metro stations due to strict security concerns. The sudden closures come in response to an ongoing protest and a planned march toward the Parliament, prompting authorities to secure central areas of the city to maintain public order.
Major Hubs and Blue Line Affected
The travel restrictions primarily impact the Blue Line and key central locations. Prominent stations like Rajiv Chowk, Janpath, Patel Chowk, Central Secretariat, and the Supreme Court are completely sealed for entry and exit until further notice. Commuters have been advised to plan their journeys carefully and avoid traveling toward these restricted zones, as surface traffic in the area is also expected to be heavy.
Interchange Facilities Remain Operational
Despite the extensive closures at entry and exit gates, the DMRC has provided a slight relief for transit passengers already inside the system. Interchange facilities remain fully operational at crucial junction stations like Rajiv Chowk and Central Secretariat. Passengers can still switch train lines at these hubs without having to exit the station premises. Heavy security personnel have been deployed across the network to monitor the situation.
