Students preparing for competitive exams in Chitrakoot, Uttar Pradesh, will soon have access to a brand new digital library and coaching centre after the Empowered Committee of NITI Aayog cleared the project. The move comes as a relief for hundreds of young aspirants who have long struggled to find adequate space and resources to study.
For years, most students in the district had no option but to prepare for competitive exams at a private library, a coaching centre, or simply at home. For many young people who had finished school or college and were preparing for government job exams, the lack of a proper place to study remained their biggest hurdle. Recognising this gap, the district administration had earlier set up a library of its own. However, as word spread, the number of students walking in grew steadily, and the existing facility, with room for barely 100 students at a time, quickly ran out of space, leaving a large number of young aspirants unable to find a seat.
A Bigger, Digital Upgrade in the Works
To address this shortage, the district magistrate has now set the wheels in motion for a second, more advanced facility, a modern digital library combined with a coaching centre. With approval already granted by NITI Aayog's Empowered Committee, officials say hundreds of students across Chitrakoot stand to benefit once construction is complete, gaining access to updated study material and technology to prepare for their exams.
How the Rs 7 Crore Reward Will Fund It
The funding for this project traces back to an achievement of its own. Under the aspirational districts programme, districts across the country are tracked on their progress in areas such as education, health and infrastructure, and those that perform well on this scale receive incentive money. Under this very framework, Chitrakoot topped the nationwide digital ranking of aspirational districts. As a reward for this performance, NITI Aayog is set to give the district Rs 7 crore. Rather than spending this amount elsewhere, the district administration chose to channel the entire sum into education. Acting on an initiative by District Magistrate Pulkit Garg, this money will now be used to construct the state of the art digital library and coaching centre.
DM Pulkit Garg Explains the Push
District Magistrate Pulkit Garg said, "the project is being taken forward keeping in mind the demand from students in the district." He noted that the current district library cannot seat more than 100 students at a time, a constraint that has forced many young people to go without a proper place to study. He added that once the new facility opens, students will not just get more room, they will also get a chance to study using new technology.
What Students Can Expect
The standout feature of the upcoming facility will be its sheer seating capacity. The new library is designed to seat close to 300 students at once, nearly three times what the existing library can hold. Alongside the additional seating, the centre will be stocked with new books related to competitive exams worth roughly Rs 10 lakh. To bring students into the digital fold, arrangements for 50 computers will also be made on the campus, giving them the means to study online.
