A sudden administrative order regarding hostel arrangements has triggered severe unrest at the Besuli Education Hub in Bhanpuri, located in the Bastar district of Chhattisgarh. The crisis unfolded when female students residing at the campus were abruptly instructed to vacate their living space, creating widespread anxiety and anger among students and their families. The situation escalated dramatically when District Education Officer (DEO) Baliram Baghel reached the school campus to inspect the facilities, only to be met with weeping students and outraged parents demanding an immediate rollback of the relocation decision.
Hostel Overcrowding and Incomplete Infrastructure
The core of the conflict stems from an administrative decision to temporarily relocate students from Eklavya Vidyalaya, which normally operates at Gadhiya in the Lohandiguda block. Because the newly proposed building construction for Eklavya Vidyalaya in Gadhiya remains incomplete, officials transferred its classrooms and residential quarters to the existing Girls' Campus at the Besuli Education Hub in Bhanpuri. However, the host facility in Besuli was already grappling with a severe deficit of basic amenities and adequate living space prior to the arrival of the additional students.
This sudden influx of students led to severe overcrowding within the girls' residential quarters, making daily routines exceptionally difficult for everyone involved. As living conditions deteriorated, friction quickly built up between the resident students of the Besuli Girls' Campus and the newly transferred female students of Eklavya Vidyalaya. The lack of prior planning and absence of viable alternative living quarters turned minor accommodation adjustments into an open conflict between the two student groups.
Confrontation with DEO and Mass Transfer Threat
Upon receiving reports of escalating tension at the educational hub, Bastar District Education Officer (DEO) Baliram Baghel, accompanied by Block Education Officer (BEO) and senior officials from the Tribal Development Department, arrived at the site to assess the ground realities. The visit, however, triggered emotional outbursts as young schoolgirls broke down in tears in front of the visiting delegation, recounting the daily hardships and space constraints they were forced to endure.
Witnessing their children in deep distress sparked fierce anger among the parents who had gathered at the campus. Heated arguments broke out between the guardians and DEO Baliram Baghel. Parents slammed the administration for its hasty decision to execute the temporary transfer without arranging proper infrastructure or basic facilities. Demanding the immediate cancellation of the shifting order, the guardians warned that if Eklavya Vidyalaya students are not relocated elsewhere without delay, they will forcibly withdraw all their children by applying for Transfer Certificates (TC). Furthermore, the aggrieved parents announced plans to travel to the state capital, Raipur, to lodge formal complaints against local administrative negligence before senior officials of the Education Department.
Administrative Assurance and Impact on Students
The ongoing turmoil directly threatens the academic routine and daily living arrangements of approximately 150 to 200 school children enrolled across the two institutions. Education department officials and representatives from the Tribal Development Department spent considerable time comforting the emotional students and attempting to defuse the standoff with the guardians.
Addressing the grievances, DEO Baliram Baghel acknowledged the genuine concerns of the guardians, emphasizing that parents naturally want to ensure their children do not face physical or emotional hardship. He assured the assembled families that all points raised by the parents would be examined with complete seriousness. DEO Baliram Baghel stated that a detailed report on the entire ground situation will be submitted to the Bastar Collector to formulate a quick and lasting solution. The district administration now faces the delicate challenge of arranging proper separate accommodation for Eklavya Vidyalaya students while ensuring that the original residents of the Besuli Girls' Campus retain their rightful hostel space without further disruption.
