Bollywood actor Emraan Hashmi delivered one of his most sensitive and emotional performances in the romantic drama Hamari Adhuri Kahani, stepping away from his typical screen persona. A deeply moving behind-the-scenes detail about that period has now come to light. The actor's wife, Parveen Hashmi, recently opened up about the immense personal turmoil the family was enduring while those cinematic sequences were being filmed, revealing the silent struggle the actor carried on set.
Balancing hospital visits and film sets
Parveen Hashmi took to social media to share the title track of Hamari Adhuri Kahani alongside a heartfelt note recalling that painful era. She explained that when Emraan had to report for work on this project, their young son Ayan was undergoing cancer treatment. Torn between professional obligations and the agonizing reality of leaving his ailing child behind, the actor walked onto the sets carrying a heavy burden of grief and worry that he kept hidden from the cast and crew.
When onscreen tears reflected genuine pain
Elaborating on that testing phase, Parveen noted that the intense emotions audiences witnessed on the silver screen were sometimes entirely authentic rather than mere acting. She pointed out that certain tears shed during the takes stemmed straight from deep, unfeigned personal suffering. Directed by Mohit Suri, the film hit the big screen in 2015 and featured Vidya Balan and Rajkummar Rao alongside the lead actor in pivotal roles.
A plot rooted in real family history
Hamari Adhuri Kahani was produced by Mahesh Bhatt and drew its core inspiration from the real-life romance of the filmmaker's own parents. The narrative centers on Vasudha, portrayed by Vidya Balan, a single mother whose path crosses with a wealthy businessman named Aarav, played by Emraan Hashmi. The plot thickens significantly when Vasudha's husband, played by Rajkummar Rao, who had vanished years prior, suddenly reappears in her life.
