The controversy surrounding singer Daler Mehndi in Uttarakhand has escalated, prompting the Federation of Western India Cine Employees to step forward in his staunch support. The organisation has formally written letters to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, stating clearly that they are fully aware that Daler Mehndi does not consume alcohol.
Addressing Health Issues and Recent Surgery
In its communication to the top leadership, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees highlighted that everyone is well aware that Daler Mehndi has been battling certain health complications and has recently recovered from a major surgery. The union stressed that rushing to conclusions about any artist's physical condition without verifying facts is highly regrettable.
Objection to Public Reprimand
The organisation noted in the letter that while they understand the importance of smooth functioning at public events, such delicate situations should always be handled with sensitivity and discretion rather than resorting to public humiliation. Publicly reprimanding an artist damages the dignity of the entire creative community.
Acknowledging Contributions to Indian Music
The letter draws significant attention to Daler Mehndi's immense contributions to the Indian music industry over the decades. It stated that Daler Mehndi is a towering figure in Indian music whose powerful songs and energetic performances have earned him widespread recognition across multiple generations, making his public insult deeply painful for the entire entertainment fraternity.
Responsibilities of Event Organisers and Leaders
The Federation of Western India Cine Employees asserted that it is the prime responsibility of public representatives and event organisers to handle any concerns related to an artist's health or performance in a respectable and dignified manner. The union has strongly appealed to authorities to adopt a much more sensitive approach towards performers and artists.
Commitment to Workers and Artists
Concluding the letter, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees reaffirmed that it has always stood firmly for the welfare, professional rights, and fair treatment of artists and workers associated with the entertainment industry.
Root of the Controversy
The entire dispute erupted on Sunday during the Siddhapeeth Maa Kunjapuri Tourism and Development Fair held in New Tehri. While Daler Mehndi was performing at the event, Uttarakhand Cabinet Minister Subodh Uniyal interrupted him midway through his performance and publicly accused him of being under the influence of alcohol, triggering widespread backlash and controversy.
