Filmmakers Decline Financial Assistance From Well-Wishers
Director Honey Trehan shared a detailed message on his social media handle to clarify the production team's position. He revealed that ever since the film's release, the team had been receiving a continuous stream of supportive messages, phone calls, and social media communications from audiences worldwide. Many supporters were actively seeking ways to reach out to lead actor Diljit Dosanjh, the creative team, and the family of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra to offer help.
Reports reached the filmmakers that community members in several Gurudwaras both within India and internationally had placed donation boxes specifically intended to collect money for the producers of Satluj. While acknowledging the deep affection and respect behind this effort, Trehan emphasized that the filmmakers could not accept financial contributions. The journey to bring Satluj to audiences has been fraught with challenges. The directorial team spent several years endeavoring to secure a theatrical release for the film across India. However, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) refused to grant clearance unless the makers implemented 127 distinct cuts to the content.
Honey Trehan and the production team stood firm on preserving their original artistic vision, refusing to compromise the narrative by accepting the extensive edits prescribed by the certification board. Consequently, the standoff prevented the movie from premiering in traditional cinema halls, leaving digital streaming platforms as the primary alternative to present the uncut project to viewers.

After prolonged efforts, Satluj finally premiered on the streaming platform ZEE5 in July. Yet the digital release proved remarkably brief, as the platform abruptly removed the film just two days after its debut.
