Bollywood actress Rani Mukerji and film producer Aditya Chopra have consistently maintained a high level of privacy regarding their personal lives. Back in 2014, amid widespread public speculation about their relationship, the couple surprised everyone by tying the knot in a quiet, strictly confidential ceremony in Italy. More than twelve years later, celebrated fashion designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee shared amusing and previously untold details from that intimate gathering.
A Strict Guest List Capped at 13 Attendees
During a candid conversation with Rani Mukerji, Sabyasachi Mukherjee disclosed that while initial discussions involved around 15 people, the final guest list was strictly trimmed down to just 13 individuals. The event was held under extreme secrecy to ensure no details leaked to the public or the press. Recalling an amusing moment from the ceremony, the designer mentioned that Aditya Chopra was actively chasing after a drone during the event to safeguard their privacy, an anecdote that left Mukerji laughing out loud.
Bridal Outfit Created in Just Seven Days
Sabyasachi revealed that Mukerji became his first official 'Sabyasachi Bride.' The actress gave him a tight deadline of just one week to craft her entire bridal attire. Describing how it happened, the designer explained that she met him for lunch one day, announced her upcoming wedding, and told him they had only seven days left. Despite the short window, the bridal lehenga was completed on time. Sabyasachi noted that he continues to create custom outfits exclusively for Mukerji within the Hindi film industry because he views her as family rather than just a celebrity client.
Karan Johar Faced Immense Pressure Over Secrecy
Filmmaker Karan Johar was among the rare 13 guests who attended the private nuptials. Aditya Chopra had given him a direct and serious warning, stating that if word of the wedding leaked out, Johar would be held personally accountable. Johar later recounted how stressful the experience had been for him. At that exact time, his production '2 States' was scheduled for release, prompting industry insiders to wonder why he was away from Mumbai during such a crucial promotional period. To maintain complete discretion, Johar had even kept the real reason for his travel hidden from his mother, Hiroo Johar.
Guarded Photos and Family Life
More than twelve years have passed since the ceremony, yet the couple has never released their wedding photographs to the public. Mukerji previously remarked that releasing the pictures on their 25th wedding anniversary might be an amusing thought, though she acknowledged that her husband is extremely private and would likely not agree to it. In 2015, one year after their marriage, the pair welcomed their daughter, Adira. In keeping with their consistent approach to personal boundaries, the couple has also never revealed their daughter's face publicly.
