A fresh controversy has surfaced around the newly released film Mirzapur The Movie over the inclusion of the track Shoorveer, which is dedicated to the valor and sacrifice of Maharana Pratap. Rajendra Rathore, a prominent political figure from Rajasthan, has formally written a letter to Shashi Shekhar Vempati, the chairperson of the Central Board of Film Certification, raising strong objections against the film's content. Rathore has demanded strict action from the regulatory body, pointing out that utilizing a composition dedicated to such a revered historical figure in the context of criminals is deeply objectionable.
Linking the Track to Gangsters and Addicts
In his letter dated September 9, Rathore highlighted that audiences across cinema halls are watching Mirzapur The Movie, where the Shoorveer track, originally created to honor Maharana Pratap's legacy of sacrifice and self-respect, has been inappropriately utilized. According to him, the song has been woven into scenes featuring gangsters and substance-addicted youths. Rathore emphasized that Maharana Pratap is a symbol of courage and pride not just for Mewar or Rajasthan, but for the entire nation. Associating a tribute meant for such a monumental historical personality with cinematic depictions of criminals and thugs is entirely unjustified.
Distorting the Original Spirit of the Composition
The political leader further stated in his communication that the composition, which was originally conceived and presented to pay homage to the bravery of the historical icon, has had its lyrics and underlying emotions compromised by being tied directly to the film's characters. He pointed out that the movie establishes a direct correlation between the concept of a valiant warrior and the activities of underworld figures. Rathore argued that this distorted representation dilutes the core essence of the track and insults the historical heritage associated with the Mewar ruler, ultimately hurting public sentiments and necessitating immediate board intervention.
Original Singer Raised Objections Earlier
The issue has also drawn criticism from regional artists, as Rajasthani singer Ashok Manda, also known as Raperia Balam, has previously registered a public protest regarding the matter. Incorporating this detail in his official letter, Rathore noted that the singer himself clarified that the track was composed strictly as a dedication to Maharana Pratap and that no prior permission was ever sought or granted for its use within the movie. Rathore reiterated his demand that the Central Board of Film Certification must take prompt steps to remove the Shoorveer song from Mirzapur The Movie to ensure that the dignity of historical figures and cultural traditions is properly maintained.
