Prominent entertainment and television producer Ekta Kapoor has spoken candidly about the most demanding phases of her journey, reflecting on the moments that tested her resilience. In an appearance on Ranveer Allahbadia's show BeerBiceps, the producer recalled how her life was shaken to its core on two separate occasions. The first blow arrived on the professional front during 2008, while the second crisis unfolded across 2020 and 2021 within her personal and emotional life.
The Professional Crisis of 2008 and Corporate Realities
Looking back at the trajectory of her career, Kapoor described 2008 as her most difficult year professionally, a period where her work suffered significant disruption and forced her to endure immense strain. Nevertheless, that phase provided crucial operational lessons about the corporate world. She noted that every vital professional agreement must strictly exist in writing. Relying solely on verbal trust while dealing with companies is rarely enough, because as corporate personnel transition, operational styles and commitments shift alongside them.
Overcoming the Trap of Overconfidence
Addressing her early rise in the entertainment industry, the producer acknowledged that tasting massive success right from the beginning created an illusion that whatever she touched turned to gold. Over time, experience taught her that any individual is capable of doing great work and equally capable of making missteps. She observed that overconfidence is foolishness rather than swagger, emphasizing that real progress and long-term success do not require arrogance. Furthermore, she stressed the importance of cultivating professional ties that do not depend merely on transient victories, noting that while career graphs constantly fluctuate, personal credibility and dedication to work must remain steadfast.
The Isolation of the Pandemic Years
Moving beyond business matters, Kapoor discussed the heavy personal toll exacted during the coronavirus pandemic. It marked the first time in her life that she remained confined to her home for such an extended duration, a complete departure from her routine. Experiencing the loss of acquaintances and witnessing widespread mortality during that phase delivered an unprecedented emotional shock that was hard to process.
Battling Postpartum Depression and Mental Strain
Kapoor also revealed the severe psychological hurdles that accompanied that period following her transition into parenthood. She shared that despite not carrying her son biologically, she suffered from postpartum depression. Grappling with this depressive state alongside the grim backdrop of the global health crisis severely impacted her mental well-being and disrupted her personal life throughout 2020 and 2021.
