Food enthusiasts seeking genuine South Indian cuisine in Uttar Pradesh have turned a modest eatery in Bahraich into a buzzing culinary landmark. Situated directly opposite the Medical College gate, Raja Anna Madras Dosa has established itself as the go-to destination for authentic crispy dosas and flavorful sambar. Over the past 15 years, the eatery has built a devoted following that continues to expand with each passing year.
Extensive Menu Featuring Over 32 Varieties
Managed by Durga Devi, the kitchen caters to diverse taste preferences by offering more than 32 distinct preparations of dosa. Pricing across the menu remains structured around straightforward options, starting with classic Masala Dosa at 80 rupees. Richer variations include Paneer Dosa at 120 rupees, Cheese Dosa at 140 rupees, and Cheese Paneer Dosa priced at 150 rupees, alongside popular specialties like Mysore Dosa and Butter Paneer Dosa. Beyond dosas, visitors can also order traditional South Indian staples such as Idli and Sambar Vada, as well as fast-food favorites like Pav Bhaji and Vada Pav.
Authentic Spices and Ingredients Sourced Directly from the South
The secret behind the eatery's consistent taste lies in its sourcing strategy. Durga Devi explained that key ingredients, including signature spices, specific varieties of rice, cooking oils, and other essential staples used for dosas and sambar, are shipped directly from Madras and Tamil Nadu. The kitchen relies on the local Bahraich market solely for daily fresh vegetables and water. Furthermore, the head chefs and primary culinary workers hail from Madras, ensuring that authentic regional cooking methods are strictly preserved in every serving.
Fifteen Years of Community Connection and Regional Reach
Durga Devi and her husband, Iyer Anna, originally relocated to Bahraich from Madurai district in Tamil Nadu. Over the past decade and a half, the couple received immense warmth and acceptance from the local community, creating lasting bonds where customers who first visited 15 years ago still drop by regularly. Bahraich has essentially become their extended home. Their culinary enterprise is also a broader family affair, with relatives operating similar South Indian food setups serving the same authentic recipes across Gonda, Kanpur, and Delhi.
