The moment summer rolls in, markets fill up with litchis, and just hearing the name brings a juicy sweetness to mind. This fruit is not only delicious, it also helps keep the body cool and hydrated through scorching afternoons. Most people simply peel and eat litchis as they are, but if you want to serve guests something a little different and special, litchi chaat is hard to beat. The pairing of sweet and tangy flavours appeals to people of every age, and best of all, it takes only minutes to put together.

What You Will Need

For this chaat you will need 20 to 25 fresh litchis, one small cucumber finely chopped, one small onion finely chopped, one green chilli finely chopped, one tablespoon of lemon juice, half a teaspoon of black salt, half a teaspoon of roasted cumin powder, a quarter teaspoon of red chilli powder, a little fresh coriander and a few mint leaves.

How to Make It

Start by peeling the litchis and removing their seeds. Cut the flesh into halves so it blends well with the other ingredients.

In a large bowl, add the chopped litchis, cucumber, onion and green chilli. Sprinkle over the black salt, roasted cumin powder and red chilli powder. Finally, squeeze in the lemon juice and gently toss everything together until the spices coat each piece evenly.

Garnish with fresh coriander and mint leaves on top. For an even better taste, chill it in the refrigerator for 10 to 15 minutes before serving.

Why This Chaat Stands Out

The natural sweetness of the litchi, the gentle sourness of lemon and the mild kick of the spices come together to make this chaat truly special. It is not just tasty, it also brings a burst of freshness in the heat. The water and vitamin C in litchis help keep the body hydrated.

If you want to serve something unusual, flavourful and memorable this summer, do give litchi chaat a try. Its sweet, refreshing taste will win everyone over, and rest assured, your guests will ask for the recipe before they leave.
