A major accident occurred in Gurugram Sushant Lok Phase-3 on Sunday when the balcony of the second floor of a residential building suddenly caved in, causing severe damage to the lower levels. Local police and administration have confirmed the incident after inspecting the site.
House owner and contractor suffer critical injuries
The accident left house owner Kanhaiya Yadav and a private contractor overseeing repair work with critical injuries. According to the police, the residential units in block B-1 where the incident took place are at least three decades old. Initial findings revealed that the collapsed second-floor structure already had visible cracks prior to the incident.
Accident happened during ongoing repair work
At the time of the mishap, the property owner had hired a private contractor to carry out repair works, and work was actively underway when the structure gave way, trapping both men in the debris. Both injured individuals were immediately rushed to a hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment. Pawan Yadav, president of the local Residents Welfare Association, stated that authorities had been repeatedly approached in the past regarding the deteriorating condition of old balconies in the area.
Seepage and water logging weaken structures
According to local representatives, structural integrity of older buildings is severely compromised due to water stagnation on rooftops and persistent moisture seepage. Residents have been urged to get their aging properties inspected and repaired timely to prevent safety hazards.
