A shocking incident has shaken Jind district in Haryana, where a father allegedly shot and killed his only son over a property and land division dispute. The fatal shooting took place on the night of October 14 in Talonda village. The accused, identified as Madanlal, used his licensed revolver to open fire on his 26-year-old son, Murari, leaving the local community in deep shock as authorities investigate the tragic sequence of events.
Background of the Family and Dispute
According to available details, the accused Madanlal previously served as a sub-inspector in the Chandigarh Police. After resigning from his police career, he established a ghee manufacturing factory in Chandigarh and recently started operating a hotel in the city as well. The victim, Murari, lived in the village alongside his wife and two-and-a-half-year-old son. Meanwhile, Madanlal resided in Chandigarh with his wife and younger daughter, while his elder daughter is currently living abroad. Madanlal had traveled to Talonda village with his wife to attend a wedding ceremony and returned to the village home late at night, where the altercation regarding land distribution escalated between the father and son.
The Firing Incident and Allegations
The victim's wife, Shivani, has made grave accusations regarding the premeditated nature of the crime. Shivani stated that a plot to murder her husband was hatched earlier on October 14. She claimed that fellow villagers Kmalu and Gurbaksh came to their home and called Murari away. Sensing immediate danger, Murari had dialed 112 to alert emergency police services. Upon arriving at Gurbaksh's residence, Murari's mother-in-law allegedly signaled toward Madanlal, prompting the father to unleash seven rounds from his licensed revolver. Abhishek, Arveen, Ajay, Manjit, and Praveen were reportedly present at the location when the shots were fired. Murari sustained bullet injuries to his head, neck, chest area, and stomach, resulting in his instant death on the spot. Forensic evidence at the scene included seven empty shell casings, while investigators noted that Murari was struck by four bullets.
Controversy Surrounding Police Response
Shivani has strongly criticized the conduct of law enforcement, alleging that the Dial 112 response team arrived precisely as the gunfire erupted but fled the scene immediately out of fear. In contrast, the Sadar police station officials maintained that their team had approached the location with the intent of apprehending the accused. Furthermore, Shivani revealed that Murari had filed a formal complaint against his father back in June, alleging that instead of taking prompt action, local authorities repeatedly summoned Murari to the police station to pressure him into a settlement. She also accused her father-in-law and mother-in-law of harassing her for dowry, questioning her character, and issuing persistent death threats against her husband.
Registration of FIR and Ongoing Search
Sadar Station House Officer Kamal Singh confirmed that an FIR has been registered under various sections including murder against six individuals based on the formal complaint filed by the victim's wife. The accused persons named in the case include father Madanlal, mother Manjit Kaur, sisters Puja and Vandana, along with villagers Gurbaksh and Kamlu. The primary accused, Madanlal, has been on the run since the commission of the crime, and police teams are actively conducting raids to trace him. Authorities stated that further legal action will proceed based on the autopsy findings and the ongoing investigation.
