The official process to dismantle and relocate the Kherki Daula toll plaza on the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway has gained significant momentum. The National Highways Authority of India has initiated the procedure to denotify the existing toll plaza, paving the way for its relocation to Kukdola village located beyond Manesar on the Delhi-Jaipur Highway. The Union Ministry of Road Transport granted approval for this relocation in May 2025. The new modern toll facility will be constructed at an estimated cost of 20 crore rupees and will feature state of the art electronic tolling infrastructure.
New Site at Kukdola Situated 12 Kilometers Away
Following extensive consultations between the National Highways Authority of India and local administration, Sehrawan in Kukdola village was identified as the final site for the new facility. This new location sits approximately 12 kilometers away from the present Kherki Daula toll plaza. The administrative denotification process is expected to span three to four months. Simultaneously, constructing the core physical infrastructure and main building at Kukdola will require around four to five months. The site selection was driven by traffic demands, as over 90,000 vehicles pass near Pachgaon Chowk daily, necessitating an expansive area to manage high vehicular volume smoothly.
14 Boothless Lanes with Multi-Lane Free-Flow Technology
The upcoming toll plaza at Kukdola will operate entirely without conventional physical toll booths. The infrastructure will feature 14 boothless lanes equipped with a multi-lane free-flow tolling system. Under this mechanism, commuters will experience uninterrupted passage, as vehicles will not need to stop even for a single second. Advanced sensors and camera arrays will scan passing traffic to deduct toll charges automatically. In instances where a vehicle's FASTag carries insufficient balance, the system will automatically issue a toll notice containing applicable penalty charges directly to the registered vehicle owner.
Nearly a Decade of Delays and Key Factors Behind It
Public demands to shift the Kherki Daula toll plaza first gained major traction nine years ago. Union Minister for Road Transport Nitin Gadkari publicly announced the decision to relocate the plaza during a public rally at Badshahpur in 2016, responding to persistent requests from local residents. Despite the early commitment, the project remained stalled for nearly a decade. The prolonged delay stemmed from complex land acquisition hurdles, pending legal disputes, sustained protests by local villagers, statutory clearance requirements from the forest department, and security concerns. Officials also noted that shifting this toll plaza could influence fee structures at nearby toll facilities across the region.
