Electoral authorities across Haryana have stepped up field verifications and hearings under the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) drive, a comprehensive exercise designed to cleanse and update the state's electoral rolls. During the rigorous verification of mapping data, notices were issued to more than 4.49 million voters on account of incorrect or inconsistent information. Administrative teams have accelerated the adjudication process, wrapping up formal hearings in over 4.056 million cases, while approximately 435,000 cases remain pending across various assembly segments.
Accelerating Pending Cases Across Districts
Data released by the administration shows that the largest concentration of unresolved hearings is located in the districts of Faridabad, Karnal, and Hisar. Taking stock of the pending workload, Haryana's Additional Chief Electoral Officer directed all Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) to expedite their proceedings and ensure all pending hearings are resolved strictly within the stipulated timeline. The directive stressed that every formal order passed must comply fully with the statutory guidelines and procedural safeguards laid down by the Election Commission of India.
Voters Advised Not to Panic Over Formal Notices
Electoral officials emphasized that receipt of a notice is not an outright cancellation of voter status and urged citizens not to panic. Registered individuals who have received notices are entitled to appear before their designated EROs along with supporting documents to rectify address or identification discrepancies. Once the correct documentation is furnished and verified, the errors present in the draft registry will be promptly amended.
To ensure uniform compliance, a comprehensive video conference was held on Thursday connecting all District Election Officers (DEOs) across the state. In this coordination session, instructions were issued to conduct a fresh review of all cases where prospective voters were classified as ineligible or where Form-6 registration applications were rejected during initial screenings. The Additional Chief Electoral Officer reiterated the foundational guideline that no genuine, eligible citizen's name may be deleted from the electoral roll without establishing adequate, verifiable cause.
Strong Enrollment Drive Sees 378,000 Form-6 Submissions
Alongside the verification of existing voter records, the revision initiative witnessed significant participation from new applicants seeking inclusion on the voter rolls. Statewide, the election machinery received roughly 378,000 Form-6 applications from eligible residents. Urban and industrialized areas accounted for the largest share of new applicant volumes, led by Gurugram with 39,985 submissions, followed closely by Faridabad with 33,463 and Hisar with 22,001 applications.
Notable applicant counts were also registered in other regions, with Nuh recording 9,087 submissions, Panchkula registering 8,786, and Charkhi Dadri accounting for 7,095 Form-6 forms. The designated window for citizens to lodge formal claims and objections regarding the draft electoral roll officially drew to a close on September 30. Administrative teams are now tasked with finalizing the disposal of all submitted claims and objections by October 28, paving the way for the statewide publication of Haryana's final voter list on November 6.
Political Scrutiny and Inter-State Developments
The extensive scope of the voter revision exercise has drawn sharp scrutiny from political stakeholders in the state. Haryana Congress President Rao Narendra Singh called for absolute transparency and rigorous protection of every eligible voter's constitutional franchise. He urged an assembly-wise audit of all changes made during the exercise, emphasizing that details regarding deleted names, proposed deletions, objections filed, and pending notices should be evaluated thoroughly.
A dedicated state-level action and monitoring committee meeting has been scheduled by the Congress for October 7, with party state in-charge Sanjay Dutt and former chief minister as well as Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda slated to participate. Dutt similarly underlined that voter roll updates must proceed with complete openness, warning against any arbitrary or hasty removals of valid voters. The issue of revision procedures has simultaneously triggered intense debate in other states such as Karnataka, where large-scale submissions of Form-7 sparked political confrontation, culminating in CM DK Shivakumar staging a sit-in demonstration outside the election authority's office after raising procedural demands.
