A severe crime incident took place in Kurukshetra, Haryana, where four masked assailants breached the residence of a senior lawyer and looted property worth approximately 3.15 crore rupees at gunpoint. The armed robbery occurred within the jurisdiction of the Thanesar City police station, where the intruders assaulted the elderly couple, tied their limbs, taped their mouths, and held them captive before escaping with cash, jewelry, and weapons.
Elderly Couple Held Hostage Upon Returning From Walk
According to the official complaint filed by senior advocate Balwant Singh Walia, the incident unfolded late Thursday evening. Walia had left his house at around 9:30 PM to walk his pet dog. Upon returning at approximately 10:00 PM, he discovered the main entrance compromised and household belongings scattered across the rooms. Inside, he found his wife lying face down on the bed with her hands and feet bound securely by rope and her mouth sealed with tape. Before he could react, four masked men ambushed him inside the house, restrained him, and threatened him with firearms.
Intruders Linked Robbery to Previous Heist in March
The criminals physically assaulted the elderly couple and demanded access to their valuables under the threat of immediate death. During the confrontation, the assailants explicitly claimed responsibility for an earlier theft of 50 lakh rupees that took place at the same residence on March 20 earlier this year. The robbers told Walia that they were unable to crack the electronic safes during the previous break-in, which prompted their return. Fearing for their lives, the lawyer complied with their demands, handed over the keys, and unlocked two digital safes for the intruders.
Stolen Property, Weapon, and Destruction of Surveillance Evidence
The robbers gathered between 17 and 20 lakh rupees in cash, 1.5 to 2 kilograms of gold ornaments, nearly 4 kilograms of silver jewelry, silver utensils, and decorative idols. They also confiscated the advocate's licensed revolver along with live ammunition cartridges. To obstruct law enforcement identification, the perpetrators deliberately damaged four security cameras installed on the premises and seized the digital video recorder (DVR) unit containing footage of the crime. Before fleeing, the robbers demanded an additional 80 lakh rupees, warning that they would return and kill the couple if the police were contacted.
Rescue by Neighbors and Ongoing Multi-Agency Police Probe
Prior to escaping, the perpetrators locked the outer gate from the outside to delay discovery. The bound couple managed to raise an alarm, prompting nearby residents to arrive, unlock the residence, and free them. Local police authorities, forensic investigation units, and senior officers arrived at the scene shortly after receiving the call. Station House Officer Devender Singh stated that a formal case has been registered at Thanesar City police station against unidentified individuals under charges of robbery, criminal intimidation, and violations of the Arms Act. Joint teams from the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) and local police are examining citywide security camera feeds to track the suspects, and stationary security personnel have been deployed at the advocate's residence.
