A tragic hit-and-run incident in Haryana's Faridabad has exposed severe policing delays, leaving investigators empty-handed nearly 20 days after the fatal crash took place. Lakshmi Narayan Jhawar, the father of Amit Jhawar, who serves as a product manager at Facebook's parent company Meta, lost his life after being struck down by a reckless driver. The senior citizen was walking back to his residence after offering prayers at a local temple when a speeding vehicle struck him with tremendous force. Despite surveillance footage provided directly by the grieving family and the presence of extensive civic surveillance across the city, authorities have failed to apprehend the culprit.
Devastating Collision Near Ankhir Roundabout
The fatal accident unfolded on the night of August 27 at approximately 8:35 PM. According to the police first information report, Lakshmi Narayan Jhawar had visited a neighborhood temple and was returning home on foot. When he was barely 100 meters away from his doorstep, an automobile speeding in from the direction of the Ankhir roundabout crashed violently into him. The impact tossed him onto the road, after which the vehicle ran directly over his body. Rather than stopping to render medical aid, the motorist fled the scene at high speed. Following the incident, the victim's daughter, Jyoti, lodged an official police complaint at the Surajkund police station.
Surveillance Evidence and Visuals Handed to Authorities
Visual records of the crash, captured by area closed-circuit television and vehicular dashboard cameras, subsequently emerged. The recordings clearly show the speeding vehicle colliding forcefully with Lakshmi Narayan Jhawar and rolling over him before speeding off into the night. The victim's family stated that they tracked down and provided these critical camera recordings to the investigating officers themselves. Despite possessing clear video evidence, local police have been unable to trace the runaway car or identify the suspect, raising serious alarms given that hit-and-run incidents have seen a noticeable surge across Faridabad in recent times.
Grieving Son Demands Accountability and Speedier Probe
Amit Jhawar has openly questioned the pace and effectiveness of the investigation conducted by the Faridabad police department. He pointed out that the inquiry has progressed at a remarkably sluggish pace, resulting in zero arrests even after nearly three weeks. Amit stressed that the vehicle was traveling at such a dangerously excessive speed that his father had no chance whatsoever to react or step out of harm's way. Calling for a rigorous, comprehensive investigation, he demanded that whoever bears responsibility for the deadly crash be identified and subjected to strict legal punishment without delay.
Utilizing Smart Surveillance and Reviewing Legal Charges
Calling for technological diligence, Amit Jhawar urged the police to uncover the identities of everyone seated inside the car at the exact time of the collision. He noted that Faridabad is equipped with approximately 25,000 smart surveillance cameras, which could provide crucial digital trails to trace the car and verify its occupants. Amit further insisted on determining whether the motorist was distracted on a mobile phone or driving under the influence of alcohol during the incident. Additionally, he raised doubts over the adequacy of the legal provisions invoked in the initial first information report, demanding an evaluation of whether more stringent legal sections must be added based on a thorough examination of the facts.
