Commuters navigating the dense urban sprawl of the National Capital Region are on the verge of experiencing significant transit relief. Construction on the 91-kilometer-long high-speed link expressway connecting five major urban hubs—Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad, and Sohna—has entered its final execution phase. Designed as a comprehensive bypass, the corridor will allow motorists to travel between these cities along peripheral high-speed lanes without getting caught in internal gridlock.
Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari previously noted that this six-lane access-controlled expressway will effectively halve travel times between Delhi and the upcoming Noida International Airport. Built with an estimated investment of 7,084 crore rupees, the expressway also features three-lane service roads on either flank to manage local traffic dispersal smoothly. The entire infrastructure undertaking is being executed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
Route Alignment from DND Flyway to Faridabad and Sohna
The 91-kilometer alignment begins at Delhi's DND Flyway, navigating through the Maharani Bagh interchange before tracking alongside the Yamuna towards Kalindi Kunj. The ensuing nine-kilometer stretch reaching up to the Delhi border is largely elevated. Notably, a seven-kilometer segment will soar approximately 27 meters in the air directly above the Okhla Vihar and Kalindi Kunj metro stations. Near Kalindi Kunj, a 140-meter-long steel arch bridge over the Agra Canal is nearing completion, forming the vital link between the Delhi and Faridabad sections.
After crossing the Mithapur toll barrier, the corridor integrates with the Faridabad Bypass Road. Near Sector-65 in Faridabad, the alignment branches into two independent corridors. One branch proceeds directly toward Sohna, integrating with the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway at the Nuh interchange. The second branch constitutes a 32-kilometer spur reaching the Yamuna Expressway and Dayanantpur village near Noida Airport, crossing the Eastern Peripheral Expressway near Mohna along the way.
Major Civil Structures, Flyovers, and Travel Time Reductions
The engineering layout across the full 91-kilometer stretch includes eight major elevated spans, ten flyovers, six vehicular underpasses, and railway overbridges. The configuration covers a 59-kilometer section between DND and Sohna alongside the 32-kilometer airport branch. This controlled-access setup prevents grade-level interference from cross-traffic, maintaining sustained high speeds.
At present, vehicular transit from central interchange points like Ashram or Sarai Kale Khan to the Noida Airport site takes anywhere from two to two-and-a-half hours via existing surface roads. Once this expressway becomes operational, that transit duration will shrink to 45 to 50 minutes. The route additionally provides a bypass alternative for travelers shuttling between Delhi, Gurugram, and Faridabad who typically contend with congestion on NH-48 and Mathura Road.
Feeder Linkages Across Faridabad and Gurugram
Complementary infrastructure works in Faridabad and Gurugram will further amplify the corridor's reach. In Faridabad, an elevated road originating near the Arun Jaitley National Institute of Financial Management beside Sainik Colony will extend rapid access through Badkhal-Ankhir village and Asian Hospital toward Amrita Hospital. A dedicated grade-separated interchange will also be constructed near Badkhal Lake to facilitate regional distribution.
Concurrently, development is advancing on the Southern Peripheral Elevated Road in Gurugram. The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority has issued a tender valued at 754 crore rupees for this project. Spanning 4.2 kilometers, this elevated corridor will bind the Dwarka Expressway directly with the Gurugram-Sohna Highway and the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. Consequently, travel time between Dwarka Expressway and Sohna will decline sharply from 45 minutes to just 15 minutes. The overarching expressway network connecting the NCR cities and the Jewar aviation hub is expected to open within a few months.
