A tragic accident occurred on Friday afternoon at a cricket academy located in IMT Manesar, Gurugram, Haryana. An unintended action by children playing on the academy grounds resulted in the death of an eight-year-old boy. The young child sustained fatal injuries after being crushed under a heavy pitch roller, weighing approximately 750 kilograms, which is used to flatten the playing surface.
Accidental Activation of Heavy Pitch Machinery
The deceased child was identified as eight-year-old Akash Kumar. Originally hailing from the Nalanda district of Bihar, Akash was residing with his family in Gurugram. The incident took place around 1:00 PM on Friday when Akash was present at the cricket academy along with his elder cousin brother, Neel, and two other playmates.
During their play, the children climbed onto the heavy motorized pitch roller parked at the facility. While playing on the machinery, one of the children accidentally toggled the Miniature Circuit Breaker (MCB) switch mounted on the equipment. Turning the MCB switch on immediately started the engine, causing the 750 kg roller to move forward and backward unpredictably.
Sequence of the Accident and Medical Response
As the massive roller unexpectedly lurched back and forth, Akash lost his balance and fell directly onto the ground in front of the moving machine. Before anyone could intervene, the heavy roller passed over him, causing severe internal and external injuries. Frightened by the catastrophic turn of events, the other children fled the scene immediately.
A short while later, players arriving at the academy for practice spotted Akash lying critically injured near the pitch. They immediately rushed the young boy to a nearby private hospital. However, upon arrival, attending physicians examined the child and declared him brought dead due to severe traumatic injuries.
Family Statement and Police Investigation Details
The victim's uncle, Vikas Kumar, stated that the family was first alerted about the mishap by Akash's cousin, Neel. Initially, relatives were only informed that Akash had sustained injuries. It was about an hour later that the family learned the full gravity of the incident and the heartbreaking news of his demise.
The grieving family expressed that they do not suspect any foul play, sabotage, or intentional negligence behind the tragic event. Consequently, they declined to lodge an official criminal complaint against anyone. Gurugram Police Public Relations Officer Sandeep Turan confirmed that, based on the statements recorded by the family members, official inquest proceedings have been initiated under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
