Hair fall is no longer a problem limited to older adults, it is now showing up across age groups thanks to stress, disturbed sleep, hypertension, pollution and constant exposure to dust. Beautician Gauri Kumari, based in Jamui, says that even after spending on pricey hair care products, many people do not see the results they hoped for, while simple kitchen staples like fenugreek seeds and onions have long been trusted for hair care. According to her, using a fenugreek and onion juice mixture the right way and on a regular basis can help slow down hair fall and support fresh hair growth over time.
How to prepare the fenugreek and onion paste
Kumari's method starts the night before: soak roughly two to three spoons of fenugreek seeds in water and leave them overnight. The next morning, grind the softened seeds into a smooth paste. Separately, extract juice from two to three onions by grating or blending them. Mix this onion juice thoroughly into the fenugreek paste until the two blend into one mixture. Apply it directly to the scalp and hair roots with your fingertips, and leave it on for about 30 to 45 minutes before rinsing off with a mild shampoo. Repeating this once or twice a week tends to show better results.
A spray version for those short on time
For anyone who finds applying a paste inconvenient, the same remedy can be turned into a spray. This version also starts with soaking two to three spoons of fenugreek seeds in water overnight, but the next morning the water is boiled along with the seeds. Once boiled, the seeds are strained out and the remaining liquid is allowed to cool. Equal parts of onion juice are then mixed into this fenugreek water and poured into a spray bottle. The mixture is sprayed onto the scalp and roots, and after roughly 20 to 30 minutes, it can be rinsed off with plain water or a mild shampoo. This method works well for those who do not have the time to prepare and apply a thick paste.
Precautions to take before trying it
Kumari advises that anyone with a sensitive scalp or a history of allergies should carry out a patch test, on the hand or behind the ear, before applying the mixture across the whole scalp. This helps confirm whether the skin reacts badly to fenugreek or onion before it is used more widely. She also points out that no home remedy shows results after just one or two applications, results only become visible after weeks of consistent and correct use, so patience matters as much as the remedy itself.
When it is time to see a doctor instead
That said, this home remedy is not a substitute for medical care in every situation. If hair is falling out unusually fast, round bald patches start appearing on the scalp, or there are signs of irritation or infection, relying only on home remedies is not advisable. In such cases, consulting a dermatologist quickly for proper diagnosis and treatment is the safer route, since timely medical attention can prevent the problem from getting worse.
