A family in Himachal Pradesh was left shattered on Tuesday morning when a road accident in Nerwa, Shimla district, claimed the lives of a father and his young daughter in a matter of seconds. The car, carrying Lokinder Dhanaik, 42, and his 12-year-old daughter Tia, plunged roughly 500 metres into a deep gorge near Bawi Kainchi while being reversed at a steep mountain curve. What made the tragedy all the more devastating was that the mother and son were waiting just below at the bend and had to watch the accident unfold with their own eyes.
A Six O'Clock Moment That Shattered a Family Forever
The accident happened around 6 in the morning near Bawi Kainchi in Nerwa, in the Chaupal area about 80 km from Shimla. Lokinder Dhanaik, a resident of Khokah village, was attempting to reverse his car at a sharp curve on the hill road. His wife and son had stepped out of the vehicle and were standing at the bend below, while Lokinder and his daughter Tia remained inside. As the car was being manoeuvred backwards, it suddenly lost control, slipped off the edge of the road and fell into the gorge below.
Mother and Son Watched Their World Collapse
The impact of the crash left no chance of survival for either Lokinder or Tia. Both died at the scene. In a single terrifying moment, the family that had been together just seconds earlier was irreversibly torn apart. The mother and son, standing only a short distance away, were powerless to do anything but watch as their entire world was destroyed before them.
Police File Case Under BNS, Launch Probe
Officers from Nerwa police station reached the site and recovered both bodies from the gorge. A case has been registered under Sections 281 and 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and an investigation into the exact cause of the accident is now underway.

News of 12-year-old Tia's death spread rapidly across social media, prompting an outpouring of grief from people who knew her. Videos from her school performances and clips of her dancing the traditional naati are being widely circulated.
