A tragic road accident in the hill district of Uttarkashi claimed the lives of four pilgrims on Thursday morning after their vehicle veered off the road and fell into a river near the Ganganani hot spring. The victims, all hailing from Gujarat, were traveling toward the Gangotri shrine in an Innova car. The vehicle was carrying seven occupants at the time of the crash, which left one passenger severely injured alongside the four confirmed fatalities.
Speeding Vehicle Loses Control During Early Morning Transit
The incident occurred at approximately 6:37 am as the car was proceeding toward Dabrani along the mountain corridor. High speed appears to have caused the driver to lose steering control along the winding stretch. Unable to stay on the roadway, the vehicle rolled down the steep embankment before submerging into the river below. The sudden plunge triggered immediate panic and commotion in the vicinity, prompting local residents and passersby to raise an alarm.
Search and Rescue Operation Launched
Emergency response units and disaster relief teams reached the rugged location shortly after receiving the alert. Navigating steep terrain and challenging river currents, rescuers recovered four bodies from the wreckage. A specialized rescue effort was deployed to extract the critically injured passenger and arrange immediate medical care. Teams continue to comb the surrounding riverbank area to account for all remaining individuals who were traveling in the vehicle.
