The situation in neighboring Nepal remains exceptionally critical following a severe natural disaster caused by torrential rains and sudden flooding. Over 300 Indian citizens, along with several foreign nationals, remain untraceable in the aftermath of the deluge. While administrative machinery works around the clock to identify and locate missing individuals, a young engineer from Himachal Pradesh's Una district has also been reported missing in the tragedy. With all communication lines severed for days, his family has been left in immense distress. Desperate for answers, the family reached out to the Una District Disaster Management Authority for emergency intervention. Driven by anxiety, relatives have dispatched from Una toward Nepal to participate directly in search efforts on the ground.
Stationed at Trishuli Hydro Power Project
The missing youth has been identified as 30-year-old Sukhwinder Singh, a resident of Ward-8 within the Mehatpur-Basdehra Municipal Council in Una district. Sukhwinder had been posted for some time as an engineer at Trishuli Hydro Power Project-1 in Nepal. Contact with him was abruptly lost when floodwaters inundated key river basins and infrastructure across the region. With mobile networks disabled and power supply disrupted near the project site, family members have been unable to establish any direct phone contact with him since the disaster struck.
Appeal for Administrative and Government Action
Seeking swift governmental support, Sukhwinder's family approached former Una Sadar MLA Satpal Singh Raizada to report the situation. They requested urgent political and administrative intervention to push search protocols through official state and central channels. Responding to the family's distress, Satpal Singh Raizada briefed the district administration and committed to raising the matter directly with Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu in Shimla to ensure state intervention.
Family Anxiety and State Helpline Activation
Sukhwinder's relative, Sunil Kumar, shared that non-stop efforts to reach him have yielded no results so far, worsening the family's angst. He urged local officials to escalate the tracking process with border and diplomatic authorities. Currently, the Himachal Pradesh government lacks comprehensive data regarding how many state residents are stranded or missing in Nepal. In response, the administration initiated a statewide drive through District Disaster Management Authorities, appealing to the public to report details of any untraceable family members. Emergency helplines and telephone numbers have been published across all districts. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu expressed formal condolences in the Legislative Assembly session on Thursday, paying tribute to all victims who lost their lives in the Nepal calamity.
