A poignant personal moment marked Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu's tour of Chamba district in Himachal Pradesh, momentarily overshadowing routine administrative announcements. Following an overnight stay in Tissa, the Chief Minister was holding an open public grievance interaction when an emotional young student approached him in tears. Separated from maternal care for the past three years due to a distant administrative posting, the child made a heartfelt plea to bring her government-teacher mother closer to home.
Vanshika's Plea Draws Immediate Administrative Assurance
The young student, Vanshika Thakur, broke down as she described her daily struggles to the Chief Minister. She shared that she is currently studying in the fifth grade at a local school while actively preparing for the Navodaya entrance examination. Up until class four, she had resided alongside her mother, but schooling requirements eventually forced them to live apart. Her mother, Naro, is employed as a JBT teacher and has been posted in Nerwa within Shimla district for the past three years. This assignment placed her nearly 700 kilometres away from her native household in Churah, making frequent visits practically impossible. Moved by the young girl's distress, the Chief Minister offered personal reassurance that prompt measures would be taken to reposition the teacher at an institution near her family, issuing on-the-spot instructions to attending officials to process the matter.
Focus on Rural Education and CBSE School Expansion
Earlier in the tour, the Chief Minister addressed a major public gathering organised at Bhanjradu Kala Manch in the Churah assembly constituency. Emphasising balanced human development, he detailed ongoing efforts to reinforce rural and tribal pedagogy through Rajiv Gandhi Government Model Day-Boarding Schools and formal CBSE affiliations. According to the administration, two to three CBSE-affiliated schools have already been opened across each assembly constituency to bridge the urban-rural quality gap, backed by the merit-based recruitment of over 2,700 teachers. Plans are also underway to launch more than 100 additional CBSE institutions across the state to expand accessible modern schooling.
National Education Rankings and Institutional Rationalisation
Highlighting the state's educational trajectory, the Chief Minister noted that policy overhauls propelled Himachal Pradesh to fifth position nationally in delivering quality schooling in 2025. He contrasted this outcome with 2021 during the previous BJP government, when the state lagged at 21st place. The administration pointed out that past practices had seen numerous academic and medical facilities sanctioned without ensuring adequate personnel. In contrast, current strategies have focused on rationalising existing facilities, appointing required academic staff, and filling thousands of long-vacant teaching roles to rebuild classroom foundations.
Upcoming Welfare Scheme for Underprivileged Households
The address also featured the announcement of an extensive social welfare package titled 'Mukhyamantri Ka Apna Parivar Sukhi Parivar Yojana', scheduled for statewide rollout starting next month. The program aims to disburse a monthly financial grant of Rs 1,500 to eligible women from economically vulnerable households. Additionally, qualifying families will receive up to 300 units of domestic electric power free of cost, complemented by cashless medical coverage accessed through government health insurance cards. Within the Churah constituency alone, approximately 15,000 women are projected to benefit directly from this welfare initiative.
