A major tragedy was averted near the Sujanpur Beas bridge in Himachal Pradesh on Thursday morning when debris from a hill came crashing down onto a private bus. The vehicle was en route from Sujanpur to Palampur when the incident occurred. Fortunately, besides the driver and the conductor, there were no passengers on board at the time, and both crew members emerged completely unhurt.
Morning incident near the bridge
According to available details, the episode unfolded at around 8 am on Thursday. Police reported that as the bus approached the Sujanpur Beas river bridge area, a portion of the hillside gave way, sending rubble smashing onto one side of the vehicle. The impact caused significant damage, shattering the glass windows along one entire half of the bus and creating a brief wave of panic in the surrounding area.
Debris falls despite dry weather
The unexpected collapse of debris from the hill without any preceding rainfall left residents deeply alarmed. Locals pointed out that given the precarious condition of the hillside, a catastrophic accident could occur at any moment along this route. Community members have urgently demanded that the administration inspect this hazardous mountainous stretch and implement proper safety measures immediately.
Police confirmation on the bus incident
Sujanpur police station in-charge Prakash Thakur confirmed that the incident took place around 8 am on Thursday. He reiterated that only the driver and conductor were present inside the vehicle and officially verified that no injuries were reported from the scene.
It is noteworthy that weather conditions across Himachal Pradesh have remained clear over the past three days. The meteorological department has predicted sunny skies across the state through September 12, after which thunderstorms and rainfall are anticipated. Thursday itself witnessed bright sunshine across the entire state.
