Sardar Patel University has announced a major relaxation for teacher training aspirants seeking admission to BEd courses in Himachal Pradesh. The university administration has decided to allow candidates who did not sit for the entrance exam to secure admission against available vacant seats. An open counseling drive will be conducted to fill 370 remaining vacant seats across 12 affiliated BEd colleges situated in Mandi and Kullu districts.
Counseling Schedule and Revised Eligibility Criteria
The open counseling session is scheduled to take place on August 31 and September 1 directly at the Sardar Patel University campus in Mandi district. Under previous regulations, eligibility for counseling and admission was strictly limited to candidates who had taken the official BEd entrance test. However, university authorities have waived this requirement for the unallotted seats to provide every eligible applicant an opportunity to enroll. Applicants fulfilling basic academic credentials must present themselves in person at the campus along with their original verification documents on the scheduled dates.
Seat Distribution and Counseling Status
Disclosing details about the current intake, Vice Chancellor Prof. Lalit Kumar Awasthi stated that the 12 BEd colleges functioning under Sardar Patel University have a total capacity of 1,450 seats. Out of these, 150 seats are allocated under the management quota, leaving 1,300 seats for regular counseling. The university has already concluded two counseling rounds, successfully enrolling students on 930 seats. To allocate the remaining 370 unfilled seats, the administration resolved to launch this special open counseling initiative.

Established during the tenure of the Jairam government in Himachal Pradesh, Sardar Patel University has its primary campus located near Nerchowk in Mandi district. The institution exercises academic control over higher education colleges across Mandi and Kullu districts. The decision to lift the entrance exam condition grants a vital second chance to students across the region who missed the entrance test earlier but wish to pursue their BEd degree during the ongoing academic session.
