In a major effort to improve educational standards and foster discipline across state-managed institutions, the Himachal Pradesh government has introduced stringent measures for 150 CBSE schools. Chairing a comprehensive review meeting of the education department in Shimla, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu instructed officials to enforce a mandatory thrice-daily attendance routine for both teachers and students. The Chief Minister directed department administration to ensure the seamless and effective execution of this updated operational framework across all designated campuses.
Three-Stage Attendance Tracking System
Under the newly outlined protocol, daily attendance across the 150 CBSE schools will take place across three distinct intervals. The first check-in occurs in the morning upon arrival at the campus. The second attendance round is scheduled during the midday lunch break, while the third and final check-out is conducted prior to departure at the end of the school day. This structured monitoring approach aims to maintain regularity, deter absenteeism, and foster academic consistency throughout working hours.
Dress Code Mandate and ₹5,000 Teacher Allowance
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu also mandated distinct dress codes for faculty members and students within these CBSE institutions. For educators, the prescribed dress code will become compulsory starting October 1, 2026. To facilitate compliance and ease financial obligations, the state government will provide teachers with a one-time financial assistance of ₹5,000 specifically for purchasing uniforms. Meanwhile, a finalized policy regarding student school uniforms is slated to be announced within one week.
Staffing Expansion and Focus on Rural Education
Highlighting ongoing recruitment progress, the Chief Minister shared that around 1,200 teachers have already been appointed to serve in these CBSE institutions. Additional teaching staff will be recruited in upcoming phases to address operational needs. The administration emphasized that its primary objective is to deliver high-quality instruction to children in rural areas right near their doorsteps, eliminating the need for students to travel far from home for modern schooling.
₹80 Crore Budgetary Boost and Leadership Presence
To bolster infrastructure and upgrade learning environments, the state administration is allocating an additional ₹80 crore dedicated to these 150 CBSE schools. This financial injection will enhance academic resources, classroom facilities, and teacher-student amenities. The Chief Minister reiterated the necessity of continuous monitoring to refine operations and elevate academic standards. The high-level meeting in Shimla was attended by Education Minister Rohit Thakur, Advocate General Anup Rattan, Secretary Education Rakesh Kanwar, alongside several senior departmental leaders.
