The influence of Cyclone Arnab across Jharkhand has begun to recede, yet the weather pattern across the state remains substantially altered. Starting 31 October and through Saturday, the intense grip of the cyclonic system started to weaken, but overcast skies and intermittent spells of rain continue to affect Ranchi and several surrounding districts. This unseasonal wet spell combined with cloud cover has brought an early winter chill to the region. In the capital, the day commenced under a dense layer of morning fog, followed by gradual atmospheric clearing as the day progressed.
Rainfall Distribution and District Figures Over the Last 24 Hours
Several areas in the state recorded significant precipitation over the past twenty-four hours. Official meteorological records show that Daltonganj registered the highest rainfall, receiving 75 mm of rain. Jamshedpur followed with 20.6 mm, Bokaro documented 17.4 mm, and Chaibasa recorded 2.2 mm. Meanwhile, the state capital Ranchi recorded 8.5 mm of rainfall. These persistent showers have saturated the soil, raised moisture levels, and maintained cool, damp conditions across the entire state.
Temperature Fluctuations and Chilly Conditions in Ranchi
Cloud cover dominated the skies over Ranchi throughout Friday. The morning began with reduced visibility due to fog, and while brief spells of mild sunlight broke through during the afternoon, they did little to dispel the nip in the air. The meteorological observatory recorded Ranchi's maximum temperature at 21.8 degrees Celsius, which stood approximately six degrees below the seasonal average. In contrast, extensive cloud cover kept the minimum temperature at 19.6 degrees Celsius, about 2.9 degrees above normal. The sharp decline in daytime highs made the afternoon feel uncharacteristically cold.
Outlook and Rain Predictions Through November 5
According to the weather forecast valid through 5 November, cloudy conditions will persist across several parts of Jharkhand. On 1 and 2 November, skies will remain partly cloudy in selected regions, accompanied by isolated light rain and thunder. Similar weather is anticipated on 3 November.
Atmospheric activity is expected to pick up again on 4 November, when light to moderate showers along with thunder are forecast across isolated spots in the north-eastern, central, and southern sectors of Jharkhand. By the morning of 5 November, shallow fog or mist will likely settle across various districts, after which conditions are expected to clear up noticeably.
Expected Temperature Trends in Coming Days
Daytime temperatures across the state are projected to undergo a gradual recovery, with maximum readings likely to climb by 3 to 4 degrees Celsius over the upcoming three days. Following this brief rise, daytime readings are expected to stabilise for the next two days without substantial variation. On the other hand, night-time minimum temperatures are forecast to hold steady over the next five days. As a result, residents can expect early mornings and late evenings to remain brisk and chilly despite slightly warmer afternoons.
