Ganesh Chaturthi festivities have commenced with tremendous fervor across Jamshedpur in Jharkhand, as grand idols of Lord Ganesha are being consecrated in various neighborhoods. Among the most prominent celebrations in the city, the Basic School Boy Committee in Govindpur has installed a towering 25-foot idol popularly known as 'Jamshedpur Ka Raja'. This majestic idol has turned into the primary focal point of attraction for devotees and visitors throughout the region.
A Tradition Celebrated Continuously Since 2009
The Basic School Boy Committee in Govindpur has been organising the annual Ganesh Puja continuously since 2009. Over the past sixteen years, the committee has built a reputation for installing magnificently crafted Ganesha idols that draw huge crowds of worshippers from surrounding areas. This year's celebration carries forward the legacy, with the 25-foot structure sparking immense excitement among locals and visitors alike.
Two Months of Labor and a Budget of Rs 1.6 Lakh
According to details shared by the organizing committee, crafting this impressive 25-foot idol incurred an overall expenditure of approximately Rs 1,60,000. A dedicated team of around 150 volunteers and artisans worked tirelessly over a two-month period to bring the statue to completion. The idol features a distinct artistic concept where Lord Shiva is depicted seated directly above Lord Ganesha, creating a visually striking representation for worshippers.
Ghost House Theme and Chhath Puja Glimpses
Beyond the majestic idol, the organizers have put special effort into decorating the pandal with innovative themes. To delight younger visitors, a 'Ghost House' (Bhoot Bangla) theme has been constructed within the venue, serving as a major centerpiece of amusement for children. Additionally, the pandal design incorporates artistic elements representing Chhath Puja, merging cultural motifs to provide visitors with a unique visual experience.
Cultural Tableaux and Snake Awareness Campaigns
The multi-day festival schedule features a wide variety of stage performances and community engagement activities. Special cultural tableaux (jhankis) have been sourced from Delhi and Mumbai to entertain the gathering crowds. Alongside the artistic displays, a qualified snake rescue team will conduct interactive awareness sessions for attendees. The objective of these sessions is to dispel common myths surrounding snakes, educate the public about wildlife conservation, and provide practical guidelines on safety precautions.
Grand Mahabhog for 25,000 Devotees and Cultural Evenings
The committee has also arranged community dining on a massive scale as part of the celebrations. Arrangements have been finalized to distribute 'Mahabhog' (sacred food offering) to nearly 25,000 devotees during the festival. Furthermore, cultural dance programs and stage events featuring skilled performers will take place in the evenings, ensuring a lively and spiritual atmosphere for everyone attending the festivities in Govindpur.
