Demonstrating remarkable grit and technical discipline, athletes from Palamu proved their mettle once again at the state level. Competing at the 3rd Jharkhand State Junior Athletics Championship 2026 held at the Chandankiyari Sports Complex in Bokaro, the Palamu squad secured a total of six medals. Their tally included three gold medals, two silver medals, and one bronze medal. On the back of this outstanding performance, seven promising athletes from the district have been selected to represent Jharkhand at the upcoming East Zone National Athletics Championship in Patna.

The prestigious state-level athletics tournament was jointly organized by the Jharkhand State Athletics Association and the Bokaro District Athletics Association at the Sports Complex in Chandankiyari. Meanwhile, Shivani Kumari dominated the discus throw event, outclassing her competitors to bag Palamu's third gold medal. In the boys' events, Hemant Kumar secured a silver medal in the javelin throw, while Suraj Kumar earned a bronze medal in the high jump competition.

Following the successful outing at the state meet, Palamu Athletics Association Secretary Sanjay Tripathi commended the team's efforts and outlined the selection framework for the national tournament. He confirmed that seven athletes across the sub-junior and junior categories have been picked to compete at the East Zone National Championship in Patna. Out of the seven selected sportspersons, two athletes earned their spots earlier based on their commendable performance at the sub-junior state championship held in Dhanbad. The remaining five players secured their selection through their medal-winning performances at the Chandankiyari state junior meet.
Emphasizing the core philosophy of athletics, Secretary Sanjay Tripathi noted that athletics is universally regarded as the foundation of all sports disciplines. As an individual sport, success relies almost entirely on an athlete's personal dedication, consistent daily practice, and self-discipline rather than team tactics. Among the highlighted performers, shot put gold medalist Suhani Singh, a 12th-standard student, is now gearing up for the national stage in Patna. Reflecting on her sports journey, Suhani shared that she had a passion for sports from early childhood but commenced formal athletics training in 2023. She attributed her progress to the constant encouragement of her grandfather, who supported her athletic pursuits. To manage both academics and competitive sports, Suhani follows a strict daily routine.
Suhani's daily routine starts early in the morning with structured strength and fitness training at the gym. She devotes her afternoons to school studies and spends nearly two hours every evening practicing her throwing technique at the stadium. With the East Zone National Championship scheduled to take place from September 22 to September 24 in Patna, Suhani is aiming to land on the national podium. Beyond the national meet, her ultimate career objective is to represent India at the international level and compete at the Olympic Games.
