Sweets and fried festive food often leave people with a bloated stomach and a few extra kilos to deal with once the celebrations wind down. Ayurvedic doctor VK Pandey has now suggested a set of simple home drinks that can be worked into the daily routine to detox the body and bring down the weight gained from overeating.
Turmeric water tops the list
According to Dr. Pandey, the first thing to drink in the morning should be turmeric water. Turmeric is rich in antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, which can help tackle the swelling and weight gain that follow overeating. It is simple to make, just mix a pinch of turmeric into lightly warm water and drink it.
A cinnamon-cumin drink also helps
Besides turmeric water, a drink made from cinnamon and cumin is also said to be beneficial. To prepare it, boil cinnamon and cumin in water, let it cool slightly, strain it and then drink. This drink too is rich in anti-inflammatory properties and can help control weight gained from overeating.
Start the day with lemon-honey water
Drinking water mixed with honey and lemon on an empty stomach in the morning is another common and effective way to detox the body. This remedy is an old, tried-and-tested one already followed in many households, and it is easy to adopt.
Aloe vera water for a natural detox
Those who have an aloe vera plant at home can extract its gel, blend it in a mixer, and mix it into water before drinking. This method helps detox the body naturally and can support the weight-loss process.
Results in 24 hours, but only with dietary discipline
Dr. VK Pandey has also suggested a special detox water. To make it, add lemon, mint leaves and coriander leaves to 1 litre of water and let it sit for 1 hour. After that, keep drinking this water at intervals of 3 hours. Dr. Pandey says that if dietary restraint is also maintained alongside, a reduction in weight can be seen within 24 hours.
