Ongoing Durga Puja celebrations across Jharkhand face potential weather disruptions as regional atmospheric conditions turn volatile. Thunderstorms, lightning strikes, and brisk squalls are expected across numerous pockets of the state on Monday, with similar unsettled conditions likely to spill over into the following day. Given the massive surge of devotees visiting decorated venues, civic authorities and community organizers have been instructed to exercise heightened caution.
Heightened Storm Activity Projected for October 12 and 13
Meteorological Center Ranchi indicates that weather instability is likely to peak on October 12 and 13. For October 12, an alert for high-speed surface winds and lightning has been sounded across Ranchi, Khunti, Ramgarh, Hazaribagh, Gumla, Lohardaga, and adjacent administrative divisions. Unfavorable atmospheric patterns are expected to persist on October 13 across northwest and central tracts of Jharkhand, encompassing locations such as Ranchi, Ramgarh, Lohardaga, and Hazaribagh.
Potential Ramifications for Pandal Infrastructure and Crowd Management
In Ranchi and various major urban hubs throughout Jharkhand, tens of thousands of worshippers congregate around temporary festival structures as evening approaches. A sudden onset of squally winds and sudden showers could severely complicate foot-traffic regulation and emergency movement within crowded festival grounds. Forceful wind gusts also pose a direct threat to temporary outdoor displays, fabric canopies, overhead decorative structures, and commercial hoardings erected along approach roads.
Rainfall Distribution, Fog Projections, and Temperature Patterns
Meteorologist Abhishek Anand stated that except for Garhwa, overcast skies are expected across Palamu, Chatra, Latehar, Ranchi, Ramgarh, Hazaribagh, Gumla, Bokaro, Khunti, Lohardaga, Koderma, and Dhanbad. Isolated stretches across these areas could witness light to moderate showers, offering brief respite from daytime warmth. No dramatic shifts in ambient temperatures are projected over the upcoming five days. Additionally, morning haze or fog is anticipated on October 14 and 15, transitioning into partially cloudy afternoon skies.
