A senior administrative health officer in Jharkhand's Koderma district has been taken into custody in connection with serious criminal allegations involving a minor. Dr Anil Kumar, who serves as the Civil Surgeon of Koderma, was formally arrested by local police following a complaint of alleged sexual exploitation. Immediately after the arrest, law enforcement personnel escorted him to Sadar Hospital to conduct a mandatory medical examination. Upon the completion of the necessary medical protocols, police personnel proceeded to produce the doctor before a magistrate. The case stems from a formal complaint submitted by a minor girl residing in the neighbouring Hazaribagh district.
Medical Consultation in 2025 and Allegations of Abuse
According to details that have emerged, the complainant first came into contact with Dr Anil Kumar in the year 2025, when she visited him alongside her mother seeking medical consultation. The minor has alleged that during this interaction, the medical officer gained her confidence through deception and subsequently subjected her to sexual exploitation. Following the alleged ordeal, the victim chose to lodge an online complaint with the authorities, demanding prompt and stringent legal action against the accused. Upon receipt of this formal grievance, the Koderma district police initiated a comprehensive investigation into the matter.
Late-Night Interception and Police Custody
Under specific directions issued by the Superintendent of Police, a dedicated special team was constituted to trace and apprehend the official. Operating swiftly, the police squad intercepted Dr Anil Kumar late on Saturday night near a restaurant located in the Urwan locality under the Chandwara police station limits. The doctor was taken into custody and subsequently shifted to the Tilaiya Dam outpost for preliminary questioning. Alongside detaining the accused, police officers initiated the standard legal process to formally record the minor victim's detailed statement.
Inquiry at Women Police Station and Administrative Reverberations
The victim was escorted to the Koderma Women Police Station, where senior officials including the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) and the officer-in-charge gathered comprehensive facts regarding the case. In addition, reports indicate that the matter has also been brought to the notice of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC). Following rigorous preliminary interrogation, law enforcement officers confirmed the formal arrest of the Civil Surgeon and took him to Sadar Hospital for medical clearance before his court appearance. The arrest of the district's top medical administrator has triggered widespread unease within the local health department. Police investigators emphasized that the veracity of the charges will depend on the final outcome of the judicial process, while an exhaustive probe into all connected aspects remains underway.
