A deeply tragic incident of extreme isolation has come to light from the Havanur Layout area of Bengaluru, where police recovered the skeletal remains of a 57-year-old woman identified as Dakshayini. The deceased had been living in complete seclusion and had lost all communication with her family for nearly two years. The shocking discovery inside a locked room of her house highlights a heart-wrenching story of personal loss and mental illness that remained unnoticed by the outside world for a prolonged period.
Personal Losses and Mental Health Struggles
Dakshayini originally belonged to Soundatti taluk in the Belagavi district of Karnataka. Her life took a devastating turn back in 2005 following the untimely death of her son. The grief of losing her child dealt a severe blow to her psychological well-being. As her mental health deteriorated, her family members sought medical intervention to help her cope with the trauma.
She was admitted to specialized hospitals in Bengaluru and Shivamogga for treatment, where medical experts diagnosed her with schizophrenia. Due to the severity of her psychological condition, Dakshayini was placed in a rehabilitation facility, where she stayed for approximately four months under expert care. Despite receiving medical attention and spending months at the rehab center, the profound emotional distress caused by her son's passing left a lasting mark on her mental state.
Complete Seclusion Following Husband's Demise
In 2017, Dakshayini suffered another major personal tragedy when her husband passed away. Left entirely on her own, she isolated herself inside her residential house in Havanur Layout. Over time, her interaction with relatives and acquaintances gradually diminished. Family members later stated that they had not had any phone calls or personal contact with her for about two years, leading to total ignorance about her living conditions or well-being.
Because the house remained closed and there was no regular interaction with neighbors or relatives, her demise went completely unnoticed. The sheer depth of her isolation meant that no one realized she had passed away inside her home, allowing her remains to rest undiscovered for a very long duration.
Discovery of Remains on August 7 and Identification
The situation came to light on August 7, when police authorities received information regarding suspicious circumstances at the residence in Havanur Layout. Upon arriving at the scene and inspecting the closed room, law enforcement personnel recovered human skeletal remains. The police promptly notified the deceased woman's brother, Mahesh Basappa, and summoned him to the location.
Upon arriving at the spot, Mahesh Basappa officially identified the remains as those of his sister, Dakshayini. During questioning, Mahesh informed the investigative officers that he did not suspect any foul play or criminal intention behind his sister's death, nor did he raise suspicion against any specific individual or entity.
Police Register Unnatural Death Under Section 194 of BNSS
Following the recovery and identification, the Bengaluru police formally registered an unnatural death report under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). Law enforcement officials stated that routine procedural steps have been initiated and an investigation based on available physical evidence and circumstances is currently underway.
Since the family has not alleged any criminal act, police investigators are focusing on ascertaining the exact timeline of Dakshayini's passing.
