A bizarre and chaotic incident unfolded at Thiruvananthapuram Airport in Kerala when a 26-year-old passenger smashed the emergency exit glass of an aircraft after failing to locate his missing microphone while deboarding. The unexpected act of vandalism created momentary panic among fellow passengers who were exiting the plane. Cabin crew members responded swiftly to restrain the individual and handed him over to local law enforcement authorities for further legal proceedings.
Chaos During Disembarkation Over Lost Property
According to official details, the accused passenger has been identified as 26-year-old Akhil Arvind, a resident of Vattiyoorkavu in Thiruvananthapuram. Akhil had recently arrived in Kerala after traveling from the United States, where he resides with his parents. On Wednesday night, as the flight landed and passengers began gathering their belongings to disembark, Akhil noticed that his microphone was missing. After spending considerable time searching around his seat inside the cabin without success, he lost his temper in frustration and deliberately broke the aircraft's emergency exit window glass.
Crew Intervention and Police Arrest
The sudden shattering of the emergency glass triggered alarm among passengers moving toward the exit gates. Cabin crew members acted promptly, apprehending the young man before he could cause any further damage or endanger safety inside the aircraft. He was subsequently handed over to the airport police squad. Law enforcement officers registered a formal case against Akhil Arvind under Section 324(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and placed him under arrest.
Claims of Intoxication and Ongoing Inquiry
During police interrogation following his arrest, the 26-year-old revealed that he has been living in the US with his parents and had landed in Kerala just a few days prior to the incident. The accused also claimed that he was heavily under the influence of alcohol at the time of the occurrence, asserting that his memory was impaired to the extent that he could not clearly recall why he shattered the aircraft window. Police officials are conducting a detailed inquiry into the matter while carrying out necessary statutory legal action against him.
