A large number of people from various districts of Telangana are traveling to a small village in the neighboring state of Andhra Pradesh. The primary reason for this rush is a special well located there, which is believed by many to grant couples twin children if they drink its water. People desiring children are traveling hundreds of kilometers from different parts of Telangana, including Hyderabad, Khammam, Warangal, and Nalgonda, to collect water from this well. The well is situated in Patha Doddigunta village under the Rangampeta mandal in the East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh, roughly 30 kilometers away from Rajahmundry.
Local beliefs and the twin phenomenon
According to local traditions, this village is home to more than 150 pairs of twins. Villagers claim that if a husband and wife consume water exclusively from this well without drinking from any other source for a continuous period of six months, they will be blessed with twins. Driven by this strong belief, couples from Telangana who are unable to visit the village personally are ordering the water through parcel and courier services in Hyderabad and other urban centers. The local villagers do not charge any money for the water itself, only taking the actual cost of the containers and transportation to ship it.
Weekend travel and medical perspectives
Due to direct train and bus connectivity from Hyderabad and major Telangana cities to Rajahmundry, numerous families drive down to Patha Doddigunta over the weekends. People carry the water back in large containers and also perform prayers at a temple located near the well. Meanwhile, medical experts maintain that the birth of twins is entirely a biological and genetic matter, yet curiosity and faith surrounding this well's water continue to surge across the border regions and major cities of Telangana.
