A major road accident took place in the Balaghat district of Madhya Pradesh. A speeding Bharat Petroleum tanker filled with fuel lost control and overturned near Khirkighat on the Katangi-Seoni road. The impact of the crash severely damaged the tanker's main chamber, causing approximately 15,000 liters of diesel and 5,000 liters of petrol to spill onto the road and flow directly into a nearby drain. As news of the incident spread through the surrounding areas, a massive crowd gathered at the site. Meanwhile, the driver and the helper of the tanker sustained injuries and were promptly shifted to the hospital for ongoing medical treatment.
Brake Failure Leads to Chaos
According to the available information, the tanker, bearing registration number MH 17 HA 3564, had departed from Jabalpur with a load of fuel. It was en route to Waraseoni via Seoni and Katangi. However, just before reaching Katangi, near Khirkighat, the vehicle's brakes suddenly failed, causing it to lose control and overturn. As the tanker flipped, large quantities of petrol and diesel began flowing onto the road and into drains. Witnessing this, local villagers disregarded their safety and rushed to the scene with buckets, containers, and cans to collect the fuel. Many people took significant risks to siphon off the free petrol and diesel amidst the wreckage. A video of this incident has surfaced, which has left observers shocked.
Police Intervention Prevents Major Disaster
The leakage of petrol and diesel created an imminent risk of a massive fire in the area. Upon receiving information about the accident, the Katangi police arrived at the spot immediately with their team, and a fire brigade was summoned to the site as a safety precaution. Demonstrating prompt action, the police drove away the villagers who were attempting to loot the fuel and cordoned off the entire area. Fortunately, the administration managed to gain control of the highly sensitive situation in time. By preventing any sparks from igniting the fuel, the authorities successfully averted a potentially catastrophic disaster.
