Electricity consumers in Madhya Pradesh no longer need to navigate multiple offices when their smart meter causes trouble. The Madhya Kshetra Vidyut Vitaran Company has introduced a centralized toll-free helpline at 1912 for smart meter-related grievances, serving consumers across 16 districts that include Bhopal. According to the company, this step will speed up the resolution of complaints and spare consumers the hassle of visiting different offices.
Why This Helpline Was Introduced
Even after smart meters were installed, consumers frequently found themselves dealing with a range of unresolved problems, from faulty installations and billing errors to technical malfunctions, with no single straightforward way to get help. Those running into these issues were often left navigating multiple departments or waiting indefinitely. To address this, the company has brought all complaints under one number so they can be logged, tracked, and resolved more efficiently.
What Complaints Can Be Registered at 1912
The range of issues the helpline accepts is broad. Consumers can report a smart meter that was incorrectly or incompletely installed, a meter that has burned out, a display screen that has stopped working, or a situation where the monthly bill is either not being generated or is showing an incorrect amount.
If a meter appears to be running faster than it should, leading to higher-than-expected electricity bills, that too can be flagged through 1912. Problems with the Upay app, whether the data displayed is wrong or no data is appearing at all, are also covered under this helpline.
Billing inaccuracies such as a wrong meter number printed on the bill, errors in the opening or closing meter readings, and incorrect entries carried over from an old meter can all be reported here. The helpline will additionally handle complaints about solar or net meters not being updated as needed, electricity connections that have not been restored even after a bill payment has been made, and requests related to the installation of a check meter.
What Happens After You File a Complaint
The company is urging consumers to call 1912 as soon as any smart meter or billing issue arises rather than waiting for it to sort itself out. Once the complaint is registered, the consumer receives a registration number, and it is important to keep this safe. That number is what allows consumers to check the progress of their complaint later and ensures the resolution actually comes through on time.
