A shocking incident highlighting severe lapses in food safety has emerged from Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh, where a customer allegedly found a partially dead rat inside a parcel of Mutton Kolhapuri. The food was purchased from Bismillah Hotel in the Kaharwadi area of the city. Alarmingly, two young children in the family had already consumed a portion of the meat before the contaminated rodent was discovered, prompting an immediate medical checkup and an official complaint with the local food safety department.
Rodent discovered in takeaway meal parcel
According to the complainant, Irfan Khan, a resident of Kaharwadi, he had purchased a packed portion of Mutton Kolhapuri from Bismillah Hotel for his family. Upon returning home, the family members began serving the meal, during which two minor children consumed some of the dish. Shortly after, while serving the remaining portion, family members spotted the remains of a half-dead rat mixed with the mutton pieces inside the container. The horrifying discovery caused immediate distress among the family members.
Immediate video recording and hospital visit
Realizing the gravity of the situation, Irfan Khan immediately recorded a video of the contaminated food parcel on his smartphone to preserve clear evidence of the incident. Without any delay, he rushed both children to a nearby hospital for a medical evaluation to guard against any potential poisoning or foodborne illness. Medical examinations revealed that both children remained healthy and out of danger, providing much-needed relief to the family.
Food safety department conducts hotel inspection
Following the incident, Irfan Khan formally lodged a complaint with the municipal food safety department. Responding to the alert, a team led by Food Inspector Radheshyam Gole conducted a surprise inspection at Bismillah Hotel. The officials inspected the kitchen premises, hygiene standards, and raw ingredients being used. During the operation, the inspecting team collected samples of both mutton and biryani from the establishment, sealing them on the spot for comprehensive laboratory testing.
Strict action pledged pending laboratory results
Addressing the matter, Food Inspector Radheshyam Gole confirmed receiving a formal grievance regarding a dead rat found in a Mutton Kolhapuri parcel obtained from Bismillah Hotel. He stated that the department took swift action upon receiving the report and collected necessary food samples from the restaurant. These samples are being dispatched to a certified testing laboratory, and further legal or administrative action against the hotel owner will strictly depend on the findings of the lab report.
