A catastrophic road accident in Madhya Pradesh's Rewa district claimed five lives and left 30 others injured on Wednesday afternoon after a bus collided head-on with a heavy bulker truck. The impact of the crash was so severe that the passenger bus veered off the road and plunged into a deep ditch. The incident occurred around 4:30 PM on National Highway 39 near Badwar village, situated within the jurisdiction of the Gudh police station and approximately 30 kilometers from the district headquarters. The violent collision caused immediate chaos at the scene, prompting local residents to rush to the spot and initiate preliminary relief operations before informing the authorities.
Rescue Operations Launched Following Highway Crash
Upon receiving news of the disaster, police forces and district administration teams promptly reached the accident site to oversee rescue efforts. Emergency workers, alongside local villagers and public representatives, worked continuously to extract passengers trapped inside the wreckage in the ditch. Rewa Collector and District Magistrate Narendra Kumar Suryavanshi confirmed the details of the crash, stating that the bus went off the roadway and fell into a ravine following the collision with another vehicle. He added that administrative officials, medical personnel, and local representatives immediately converged at the location to coordinate medical aid and rescue efforts. Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Bhawna Marawi also issued a statement confirming that five individuals died in the mishap while 30 others sustained injuries and were transferred to medical facilities for treatment.

The tragic loss of life drew solemn responses from top leaders at both the central and state levels. The Prime Minister's Office shared a statement from PM Narendra Modi on X, expressing deep sorrow over the tragedy in Rewa. The Prime Minister extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families who lost their loved ones and wished a speedy recovery for all the injured passengers. Similarly, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav took to social media platform X to express his grief, describing the fatal accident on the Rewa-Sidhi Highway as heart-wrenching and offering prayers for the souls of the deceased.
Financial Relief Announced for Victims and Families
In response to the tragedy, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced financial compensation from the state government to support the affected families. Under the state directives, the families of each of the five deceased victims will receive ex-gratia assistance of ₹2 lakh. Furthermore, the state government has directed that ₹1 lakh be provided to each of the 30 seriously injured passengers to assist with their medical care and recovery. The Chief Minister reiterated his condolences and prayed for the rapid healing of all injured victims.
