A speeding Hyundai Verna car ran over three people riding a motorcycle near the Mavan area, located about five kilometres from the Guna district headquarters along the Ashoknagar state highway in Madhya Pradesh. The man and woman on the bike died on the spot.
A child travelling with them, said to be around 3 to 4 years old, suffered serious injuries and was rushed to hospital. Instead of stopping after the impact, the car kept moving and slammed into the house of a man identified as Govardhan Kushwaha, leaving him injured as well and forcing his admission to hospital.
The car was clearing the path for a truck loaded with narcotics
Additional SP of Guna, Prashant Singh Suman, said this was no ordinary road accident. A narcotics department team had already been keeping watch on a truck and tailing it. The Hyundai Verna involved in the crash was actually running ahead of that very truck, clearing the way and watching for checkpoints, effectively working as its pilot vehicle. During the investigation, officers also discovered that the car was fitted with two different number plates, a detail the narcotics team is now probing.
25 quintals of doda-chura seized on a truck in the Cantt police station area
Once the team let the escort car go, it moved in on its real target and intercepted the truck within the Cantt police station area. Under questioning, the truck's driver admitted that the consignment of doda-chura on board weighed close to 25 quintals. The narcotics team has estimated its value at around Rs 3 crore. If the value of the seized truck itself is added to this haul, the total worth climbs by another roughly Rs 20 to 25 lakh.
Truck driver in custody, one of the car's occupants arrested
Suman said the truck driver has been taken into custody and is being questioned continuously. Meanwhile, one of the two men who were travelling in the Hyundai car has already been arrested by the police. A bag recovered from the car during the search has been handed over to the narcotics team. The investigation also found that the truck had been intercepted after being picked up along the Ashoknagar highway while it was heading towards Rajasthan.
