The monsoon season is currently at its peak across Madhya Pradesh, bringing much-needed relief from severe heat but simultaneously disrupting normal life in several districts. The surge in water levels in rivers and local streams has caused significant concern. In Ujjain, recent heavy rainfall resulted in a dramatic rise in the water level of the Shipra River, which submerged smaller temples located along the ghats. In response to these weather conditions, the meteorological department has issued orange and yellow alerts for various districts across the state for today, Wednesday, July 8, 2026, urging citizens to remain vigilant.

Districts Under Orange Alert for Heavy Rain

According to the Meteorological Center in Bhopal, the monsoon is expected to be at its most intense today in the central and northern regions of the state. An orange alert has been issued for Shivpuri, Sagar, Guna, Ashoknagar, Sheopurkalan, and Tikamgarh. These districts are expected to experience heavy to extremely heavy rainfall, ranging from 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm, accompanied by strong winds that could potentially lead to damage.

Additionally, some parts of eastern and western Madhya Pradesh are expected to receive moderate to intense rainfall between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm, with wind speeds potentially reaching 40 to 50 km per hour.

Safety Guidelines for Residents

Authorities have provided the following instructions for personal safety:

  • Stay indoors during thunderstorms. If caught outside, avoid taking shelter under trees or electricity poles.
