Orange Alert Issued for Eleven Districts
The weather bureau's forecast indicates that heavy rains are very likely in the state capital Bhopal, alongside Raisen, Rajgarh, Shajapur, Agar, Sehore, Dewas, Indore, Ujjain, Mandsaur, and Ratlam. These eleven districts are expected to experience varying intensities of heavy to extremely heavy precipitation. Consequently, authorities have placed these regions under an orange alert for severe thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds.
School Closures Announced in Dindori and Bhopal
In response to relentless rainfall and with student safety as the top priority, the district administration in Dindori has taken significant action. Collector Anju Pawan Bhadoria ordered a one-day holiday for all schools across the district on Monday, August 10, 2026. Additionally, all local childcare and Anganwadi centers remain closed for the day to protect young children from weather-related hazards.
Inconvenience and Waterlogging in Shyampur
Monsoon has turned particularly harsh in Sehore district, where continuous overnight cloudbursts and heavy rains in Shyampur tehsil and surrounding rural belts have severely disrupted daily life. Widespread waterlogging flooded several feet of water into dozens of shops and homes, inflicting heavy financial losses on local residents and business owners. The uninterrupted downpour swelled local rivers and seasonal streams, submerging major roads and bringing traffic to a complete standstill. Vital rural connectivity between the district and tehsil headquarters from Shyampur, Ahmadpur, Dora, and Charnal has been entirely severed.
Yellow Alert for Moderate Showers in Other Areas
While an orange alert remains in place for Bhopal, Raisen, and surrounding districts, the weather department has issued a yellow alert for moderate rainfall in several other regions. Shivpuri, Niwari, Guna, Ashoknagar, Vidisha, Neemuch, Jhabua, Alirajpur, Barwani, Dhar, Narmadapuram, Narsinghpur, Khandwa, Khargone, Burhanpur, Harda, Betul, Chhindwara, Pandhurna, Seoni, and Sagar are expected to experience light to moderate morning showers.

The meteorological department has cautioned that heavy precipitation could lead to major waterlogging in low-lying areas. River and stream water levels are expected to rise, and fragile or mud-built structures face structural threats. Furthermore, incidents of lightning strikes cannot be ruled out.
