A late-night dance show set to vulgar songs on the stage of a well-known Mata temple in Madhya Pradesh's Datia district has sparked outrage, after organisers restarted the very same performance within minutes of police leaving the premises following a complaint from angry villagers.
Calm by Day, Chaos by Night at the Temple
The Ramgarh Wali Siddh Darbar Mata Mandir in the Bhander area of Datia district recently hosted a public event. Through the day, the programme went on without incident, but as darkness fell, loud, obscene film songs began blaring from the temple stage and dancers took over the platform. Devotees present at the temple and villagers from the surrounding area were left shocked by the spectacle, since the shrine is regarded as a centre of faith and worship in the region. The devotional mood of the daytime gave way, after nightfall, to a raucous song-and-dance show inside the temple complex itself.
Villagers Alert Police via Dial-112
As word of the obscene performance spread, anger built quickly among residents of the nearby villages. Unwilling to tolerate such vulgarity at a place of worship, villagers lost no time in dialling the police emergency helpline, Dial-112, to report what was happening. A police PCR van reached the temple within a short while of the call. Officers on the scene, recognising the seriousness of the situation, immediately halted the dance performance on the stage and issued a stern warning to the organisers to uphold the dignity of the temple premises. Having delivered the warning, the police team then left the spot.
Show Restarts the Moment Officers Leave
Villagers allege that as soon as the police vehicle was out of sight, the organisers' confidence returned. They are accused of brushing aside the police warning entirely and restarting the very dance programme that had just been shut down, as if the officers' visit had made no real difference. The obscene show did not stop after a few minutes either; it continued inside the temple grounds late into the night, running until nearly 1:30 am. That it carried on for hours after police had already intervened once suggested to residents that the organisers were simply unbothered by the warning.
Video Goes Viral, Anger Grips the Region
Some of those present recorded the entire episode on their mobile phones and later shared the clip on social media, where it spread rapidly and has since gone viral. Since the video surfaced, there has been visible anger across Datia and the Bhander area. Local residents say the soft response from police and the organisers' defiance together have damaged the sanctity, reputation and religious dignity of the Siddh Darbar temple. Many have also questioned why no further watch was kept on the venue after police had already stepped in once that night.
Police Response: No Written Complaint Yet, Report Sent to Tehsildar
Responding to the controversy, Bhander police station in-charge Komal Singh Parihar said no villager had yet filed a written complaint over the incident, but police had taken cognisance of the matter as soon as they received information about it and had acted accordingly. He added that a detailed report on the entire episode has been prepared and sent to the Bhander Tehsildar, so that appropriate action can be taken at the administrative level as well. Despite the police statement, villagers continue to ask when, and how, concrete action will follow against the organisers in the absence of a formal written complaint.
