A chaotic scene unfolded in the Devasar market of Singrauli district, often referred to as the energy capital of Madhya Pradesh, when a dispute over attracting a customer escalated into open physical violence. What began as a minor verbal argument between two neighboring shopkeepers quickly escalated into a heavy stone-pelting incident in the center of the commercial hub. The sudden clash triggered panic among everyday shoppers and local store owners, causing people to run for safety as stones flew across the street. Footage of the brawl captured on mobile phones has gone viral on social media platforms.
Clash Between Neighboring Shopkeepers in Devasar Market
The incident occurred in broad daylight in the busy Devasar market, taking surrounding shoppers and shopkeepers by surprise. According to witnesses, the dispute originated when both traders attempted to direct a single customer toward their respective shops. The aggressive back-and-forth swiftly degenerated into physical fights. Losing control, individuals from both sides picked up large stones from the roadside and hurled them at each other. As the confrontation grew more dangerous, nearby shopkeepers pulled down their shutters while scared buyers scrambled to find cover from flying debris.
Shopkeeper and Employee Injured in Stone Pelting
During the intense stone-pelting session, accused Vijay Gupta, a resident of Naudhiya Abad, allegedly hurled a large stone at shopkeeper Anil Kesharwani. The projectile struck Kesharwani directly on his head, causing severe bleeding and serious physical injury. Seeing his employer under attack, an employee identified as Umesh Yadav attempted to step in and mediate the situation, but he too was struck and sustained injuries. Furthermore, several unsuspecting customers shopping in the vicinity found themselves trapped in the middle of the violence and had to shelter behind structures until the throwing stopped. Bystanders recorded the entire commotion on their smartphones.
Hospitalization and Action by Jiawan Police
Following the clash, bystanders helped transport both injured victims, Anil Kesharwani and Umesh Yadav, to a nearby hospital where medical staff initiated prompt treatment for their head and body injuries. Upon receiving formal notification of the conflict, officers from the Jiawan police station registered a criminal case against the accused Vijay Gupta under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Law enforcement personnel confirmed that the viral video footage will serve as pivotal digital evidence to identify everyone involved and ensure appropriate punitive action is taken against those who disrupted public order.
